According to Rob Shuter, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were planning a Montecito farewell party. The couple wanted to thank all their A-list friends who helped them settle in America. This includes Oprah Winfrey, Kylie Jenner, Tyler Perry, and David Foster. However, nothing fell in place for the Sussexes. “They started quietly feeling people out, and the response was basically crickets,” a source told the outlet.
The source continued, “They imagined this emotional send-off surrounded by the people who welcomed them to America.” However, “everyone was busy,” bringing an “embarrassing” situation for the royals. The report comes in the light of neighbors allegedly commenting that Harry and Markle left their Montecito mansion without star-studded celebrations and a glamorous farewell. “These weren’t supposed to be Hollywood acquaintances. These were supposed to be real friends,” the insider said about the people planning to be invited by the Sussexes.
The insider noted that “Tyler gave them extraordinary support when they arrived,” and “Oprah gave them a global platform.” Thus, “Harry and Meghan genuinely believed they had built an American family.” However, sources claimed these relationships changed over the passing years. “When there was a royal wedding, a Netflix deal or a big interview, everybody wanted a seat at the table,” the source explained. They added, “For the goodbye party, suddenly nobody could find a free night.”
Some Montecito residents also claimed that Harry and Markle failed to fully integrate into the community. As a result, the farewell was quietly cancelled. “They wanted to leave California surrounded by friends. Instead, they simply left,” the insider noted.
