Cannes Film Festival 2025 Dress Code Is Impacting Red Carpet Looks

The Cannes Film Festival 2025 is different from previous years as it witnesses a modification to its iconic red carpet looks and glamour. Before getting to business on Tuesday, organizers announced certain changes to the dress codes, banning naked dressing for “decency reasons” and “voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train.” The festival also warned that their teams would be “obligated to prohibit red carpet access” to those disregarding the rules.

Regardless, Bella Hadid, whose show-stopping looks at the Cannes Film Festival never fail to beguile, seemingly defied the “no naked dress” rule, but not entirely. She walked into the opening ceremony, flaunting ample skin and a thigh-high slit, unlike Halle Berry who had to made a last-minute alteration to comply with the new codes.

Cannes Film Festival 2025 dress code is changing celebs red carpet looks

Bella Hadid‘s red carpet look for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival had elements of naked dressing without entirely disregarding the new dress code. The model walked the opening ceremony red carpet on Tuesday in a silken cowlneck Saint Laurent backless dress that was side-baring and comprised a sky-high thigh slit. Widely considered the leading lady of the glam fest, her look was a classic example icon-worthy appearance — the kind that would certainly leave a mark.

However, the festival’s new addendum affected celebrities’ red carpet looks, prompting them to make last-minute changes. Halle Berry was one such instance, as per Variety. During the Cannes press jury conference, the actor revealed she had to change her opening night gala outfit at the eleventh hour to comply with the new dress code. “I had an amazing dress by Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train,” claimed Berry, adding that she wasn’t going to break the rules. She further called the nudity ban a “good rule.”

Before kicking off the annual event, the Cannes Film Festival 2025 organizers revealed certain changes concerning its dress code for the red carpet looks. The official charter mentioned that one of these prohibits “nudity” for “decency reasons” and “voluminous outfits,” especially those with long trains, as they can interfere with “the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater.” The festival also warned that welcoming teams may refuse “Red Carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
