Below Deck Down Under’s Tzarina Mace-Ralph on Captain Jason Friendship Changing

Captain Jason Chambers and Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph have an off-screen friendship. But while on board, they have to maintain a certain level of professionalism. However, the English-born chef is feeling confused about how her friendship with Jason changed from Season 2 of Below Deck Down Under to Season 3.

Viewers will recall how earlier in the season, Jason chastised Tzarina after he overheard her complaining about his decision to opt out of a larger crew meal. Perhaps it’s noticeable that the captain is sticking more to his quarters this season. And so Tzarina is left wondering how to approach the friendship now.

Tzarina Mace-Ralph saw Captain Jason’s “boundaries” on Below Deck Down Under

Tzarina told Bravo’s The Daily Dish how she feels the relationship changed in between filming. All the more confusing, the friends “hung out a lot of times off-screen.”

“Yeah, I personally thought it was a little bit different,” she answered.

The chef continued, “You know, we had a really good friendship, so I think in my head, I thought that I would always be … the person that he goes to and stuff,” Tzarina said in her interview. “But then he very much had his Captain hat on, you know, so it was like understanding those boundaries, where I’m like, ‘Bro, we’ve laid on the beach having piña coladas; Bro, what you doing?’”

Alongside that issue, Tzarina felt tremendous stress to live up to Captain Jason’s high expectations. At least for Season 3, she had the help of a sous-chef. The first one quit the job, but Alesia Harris has thrived in the galley.

“I think, also, I look up to Captain Jason so much, and his opinion means so much to me,” Tzarina explained. “It’s almost like I care more what he thinks than what the guests think a lot of the time.”

She added of her managerial challenges in the galley, “I want to show him that I can do it.”

Catch Below Deck Down Under Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo and on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
