Christine Brown of Sister Wives followed Kody Brown like a lost puppy for years. The mother of six rarely made waves and would agree with the patriarch’s grand ideas. But as their marriage went on, Christine started to lose the spark that made her feel so special. During the recent tell-all, the TLC explained why she finally gave up on Kody and started to concentrate on herself.
Christine Brown was unhappy with Kody Brown for a long time
It was hard, but Christine had to admit that for a very long time, her life was “wrapped up in what Kody needed and wanted. Even when he wasn’t there, I was thinking, ‘when he gets here, we will do this, this, and this.’” Christine noted that it was ” embarrassing” to admit that he was the sun for a very long time. As Sister Wives fans know, Kody would move from house to house. And the women were often left to run their own households as if they were a single parent, a majority of the time. “We had to change what we were doing to accommodate him,” Christine explained.
Finally, after almost 20 years of marriage, Christine chose to walk away from her relationship because it wasn’t serving her. She noted that the way the family acted as if Kody were a king wasn’t normal. She stated, “That’s not okay. That’s not fair. It’s making it so our loves are focused on him. And that’s frustrating to me and embarrassing that I lived it.” As far as respect goes, she assumes that at one point, Kody might have held some kind of respect for the women, but only when it came to certain jobs and positions.
Kody Brown didn’t count his blessings
Kody made a comment during the season that really annoyed Christine when he shared, “Christine did me a favor when she was brave enough to leave.” The former third wife told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m glad he thinks so. I feel like it’s giving me all the honor and credit I deserve for leaving. It was hard. But when I did it, it was very empowering. And the best choice that I made. And I love that he recognizes that.” For years prior to the split, Sister Wives fans noticed that he rarely counted his blessings when it came to his first three wives. He often took them for granted and would throw multiple tantrums when things didn’t go his way.
It was only after he lost all but Robyn Brown that he started to recognize he may have some faults of his own. For months, he would say comments like “Don’t blame me for not loving you,” which naturally angered fans and made the divorce worse for him. Kody was stuck in the patriarchal system and felt he had been the one who had been wronged for all these years. As Season 19 of Sister Wives is coming to an end, it seems like the family is coming to peace with their demise. Even Kody is starting to recognize that he made mistakes. But the change of heart is a little too late.
Christine Brown has moved on from her Sister Wives marriage
It’s been almost three whole years since Christine stepped up and chose to leave her toxic marriage behind. And while it might have been scary for her at times, she often shared that it would have been more frightening to stay in an unhappy life. For the past two seasons, fans have watched as Christine has blossomed into a new woman. She had found herself a new home in Utah and a new husband. She has enjoyed posting digs with David Woolley, including a pretty humorous nacho picture. And he seems to love her for herself. Not her royal bloodlines.
The Sister Wives season finale showed Christine closing a chapter in her own story. While she is still annoyed at Kody and Robyn for their thoughtless comments, she isn’t letting their issues dictate her life anymore. Christine is looking toward the future, and fans are hoping she and Janelle Brown are given their own spinoff.
Sister Wives is available to stream on TLC.
