The spotlight has always been familiar territory for Kristin Cavallari. She has entertained audiences with witty remarks and trend-setting outfits since her appearance on Laguna Beach through The Hills beginning in the early 2000s. However, her latest project, Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour, provided viewers with an unfiltered glimpse into her life. And surprise: it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing. The new series captured Kristin as she embarked on a nationwide tour to promote both her podcast Let’s Be Honest and her lifestyle brand Uncommon James. The process of filming drained her more than any red carpet event ever did.
Why Kristin Cavallari struggled during the filming of Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour
Kristin’s history with reality TV should have made it easy for her to jump headfirst into her new series. But according to People, the mother of three found the filming of Honestly Cavallari to be emotionally exhausting. After a five-year hiatus from TV, Kristin told the outlet, “I know I’ve said a thousand times that I would never go back to reality TV. This worked out really well for me because I was already going on a podcast tour, and so I just thought, if cameras want to come along, I’m already doing it. It just really kind of naturally fit into my life.” But she did feel that filming the new show was the “only show that I’ve done where I can say it was 100% authentic. It was real. It was the most real show I’ve ever done, and that was a really enjoyable experience.”
Did she really almost quit the show?
Kristin did have to put her foot down when she felt that her new show was becoming too scripted. She told the outlet, “I actually tried to quit the show three days into production because — and this isn’t a knock on any of the producers — but I think when there’s a lot of cooks in the kitchen, everyone gets excited, and they had a lot of ideas about who should come on my podcast tour, and it started really taking a left turn from what it was intended to be.” She wanted to make sure that fans were getting the real deal. “So I was like, ‘Listen, I’m not going to do the show. If you guys are going to try to control what this podcast tour is, I’m more than happy to not do it,'” she says.
“And I think that it was good because it made everyone realize I’m not going to do it unless it’s real. I don’t want to come in and have you guys tell us what conversations to have.” For Kristin, experience gave her the confidence to stand up for herself. She added, “I think it’s different when you need something versus when you don’t need something. It was different when I’m 17 years old, [like] ‘Yeah, I’ll do whatever the hell you want, put me on TV. Whereas now I’m more than happy to just stay at my house and not do any of this.”
