It’s not just adjusting to life post-prison that Chrisley Knows Best matriarch Julie Chrisley is dealing with these days. She is also dealing with certain health issues she picked up while behind bars.
Julie got candid about her health struggles during her time in prison. She and husband Todd Chrisley were previously convicted for fraud charges and went to prison in 2023. Julie went to the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky where she said she developed several health issues.
Julie Chrisley faced a health scare after her prison release
“Listen, I have a lung condition from being in prison,” Julie reiterated on the July 30 episode of Chrisley Confessions, the podcast featuring her and Todd. “You will probably notice me at certain times, trying to get like a breath.”
This isn’t the first time Julie talked about her health. In a previous interview she shared that she felt herself deteriorating behind bars. She explained that her lung issues were from the “black mold” and “asbestos” that surrounded her while in jail.
Savannah also previously touched on poor prison conditions and how these impacted her parents. They were part of her platform when petitioning for her parents release. And even after the presidential pardon that brought Todd and Julie home, the family still talks about addressing needed improvements in the prison system.
“That’s something that we’re having to address right now,” Todd said in response to Julie’s health admission. “This week, you have a doctor’s appointment with a pulmonary specialist that’s gonna do some tests on you.”
Hopefully that gets to the bottom of what they can do to treat her lung problems. The couple didn’t mention anything further in the episode.
As for the prison, according to OK Magazine, they refused to comment on the facilities. They simply reiterated that the mission of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is to operate “facilities that are safe, secure, and humane.”
