A month before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s walk had reportedly broken a royal rule. According to a body language expert, the former actor walked in front of the Duke of Sussex, which was apparently against the rules. The incident happened at the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London.

In 2018, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had met young delegates from the Commonwealth Youth Forum at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in CHOGM. This event reportedly marked a pivotal moment in introducing the soon-to-be royal bride. Hence, many eyes were on Markle’s gestures.
According to a clip on X (formerly Twitter), the couple approached a man to greet him. It looked like Prince Harry and his then-fiancée were going for a handshake at the same time. They supposedly bumped into each other, but the duke immediately took a step back and let his woman lead. Body language expert Judi James referred to the same incident and told the Daily Mail that Markle walking in front of Harry signaled a change in the royal rule.
She highlighted that the prompt step back appeared to be a “small body language reset for Harry.” He has been performing the “traditional royal role” all his life. “But what we saw here was the green shoots of Meghan inducting Harry into the etiquette of non-royal life,” James added. She claimed that the “Suits” alum’s “social confidence glow” was visible when she greeted people at the event. On the other hand, “Harry’s insecurities rise closer to the surface.”
James also pointed out that Harry was ready to jump into “correction mode,” instead of Markle. She, however, took “cues from him” during royal conversations and picked up his “animated gesticulation.” But the 44-year-old didn’t let her then-fiance “upstage” her, according to the expert.
