Harrison Ford admitted the challenges of “staying in love” with wife Calista Flockhart
Harrison Ford has set tongues wagging after he used an “interesting” phrasing to describe his relationship with Calista Flockhart. In an episode of NPR’s Wild Card, the Hollywood legend spoke about the challenges of staying in love.
Harrison, 83, said: “Old people can love, too. You know, you think about falling in love and all of that business. You think it’s the business of youth or something … staying in love is the issue. Maintaining, nurturing, basically, not f*cked up.”
These comments have caused speculation that the couple’s 15-year marriage could be headed into crisis. Indeed, sources close to the couple don’t seem too optimistic about the state of their relationship. One insider said: “Calista has stood by him through crashes, surgeries, and the relentless pace of his career. But there is tension now.
“Harrison admits marriage is hard work – and Calista wants to know she is still cherished and is worth that work. She’s scared she’s going to end up his third ex-wife,” per Radar Online.
The pair began dating in 2002 and married in 2010. Harrison also became father to Calista’s son Liam, whom she adopted a few months before the actors met.
The Star Wars actor’s comments are reminiscent of Ben Affleck’s famous backhanded compliment to Jennifer Garner. In his 2013 Oscars speech, the actor described being married to Jen as “work”. And we all know how that union panned out…
Still, we’re hopeful that Harrison was just being a realist, and one of Hollywood’s longest-lasting marriages is still sound.
