The Voice Host Carson Daly Gets Exciting New Power

Changes are coming to The Voice. For the first time in 14 years, host Carson Daly will now have some input on which contestants get through the Blind Auditions. He’s been given a brand spanking new power, and it could change everything.

Season 28 of the singing competition is coming in fast. Fans can expect coaches Michael Bublé, Reba McEntire, and others back to find the next singing champion. It’s the second time we’re seeing a One Direction judge on a reality show competition, as the late Liam Payne debuted on Netflix’s Building the Band earlier this year.

Carson Daly will be able to override decisions on The Voice

For Season 28, though, it’s not just the judges who are making all the decisions. A new feature has been added called the “Carson Callback.”

In a teaser for the new season, fans get cheeky peeks at the judges doing their thing. This includes Michael showing off his Reba socks and Niall getting a two-minute penalty for “looking too good.” It’s all fun, games, and business as usual.

But then, as the promo comes to an end, we hear Carson’s voice saying, “Sometimes I see great singers fall through the cracks, and I’ve never been able to do anything about it until right now.”

That’s when the show reveals the shiny Carson Callback card. This moment is cut to all the judges pushing their buttons and looking completely stunned at the reveal.

“What is happening, Carson Daly?” Michael shrieks while Reba cries, “Oh my god.”

The trailer doesn’t explain what the Carson Callback is quite yet or the number of times he can use it. But context clues would allude to it being a way for Carson to give eliminated singers a chance to come back and try again, perhaps?

Either way, it’s about time Carson got more skin in the game. He has spent so many seasons with the families and contestants backstage, so it’s amazing to see him get a new power. Fans seem excited about it, too.

Season 28 is coming in hot, and fans are already pumped for both this season and Season 29, which is being called The Voice: Battle of Champions and is bringing together a panel of coaches composed of previous The Voice champions.

The Voice Season 28 premieres on September 22 at 8pm ET on NBC and Peacock.
