The VMAs red carpet has a reputation for iconic looks. So, the stars attending the MTV VMAs 2025 had a lot to live up to. Some showed up in looks that paid tribute to iconic outfits of years past. For instance, Summer Walker showed up in the exact same outfit Pamela Anderson wore to the 1999 show. She looked amazing and made the ensemble her own. Bama Barbie does it again! Ever since she left the villa, Love Island USA Season 7 breakout star Olandria Carthen has been on a major fashion run. From a short shorts suit at the US Open to a golden goddess gown at the LI USA reunion, Olandria is making a name for herself as fashionista to watch. And the MTV VMAs 2025 red carpet was no exception. This super hot red ensemble is giving modern day Jessica Rabbit. I can only imagine Nic’s reaction when he saw her.
Doja Cat
The MTV VMAs 2025 red carpet is the time to have fun with fashion. And Doja Cat always does just that. This Balmain dress is already cute in a campy way. And Doja ramped that camp up with the styling. With the big hair and the exaggerated fun accessories, the star nailed a fun eighties vibes. It looks like she’s paying a sexy tribute to the classic film Working Girl. Adding to the fun and camp, Doja applied lipstick on the red carpet … and then ate the tube. The thing about Doja Cat, you can never predict what she’ll do next!

Sabrina Carpenter is one of the most-talked about pop stars right now. Especially considering the mild controversy around her newest album Man’s Best Friend. With her cheeky lyrics, risky moves, and glamorous pin-up looks, Sabrina is the modern Madonna. So it’s no wonder she showed up to the VMAs in a very Madonna inspired look. It’s glamorous and sexy without showing skin. And the feather boa is such a fun touch.
Tyla
There was a lot of vintage on the MTV VMAs 2025 red carpet, which I personally always love to see. Stars like Ice Spice and Latto went back into the archives for their red carpet looks. But of all the vintage outfits on this red carpet, Tyla’s Chanel ensemble is the one I personally love the most. This top was paired with a longer skirt when it was first on the runway. But the singer paired it with extra short shorts for a sexier vibe. The accessories are also amazing and quintessentially Chanel. Also, you can tell in every picture that Tyla absolutely loves the way she looks.
Ariana Grande
Looks like Ariana Grande is gearing up for Wicked: For Good press! This polka dot dress is right in line with the Glinda inspired outfits the pop star turned movie star has worn since going blonde. For her MTV VMAs 2025 look, Ariana worked with famed stylist and Project Runway judge Law Roach. If I have a quibble, it’s that this Audrey Hepburn-esque dress is probably better suited to an event like the Golden Globes. But it’s hard to be mad at a dress this pretty and elegant.
MTV VMAs 2025: Worst Dressed
The VMAs are the time to take major risks. And to dress as campy, tacky, and bold as your heart desires. Again, think of Lady Gaga’s meat dress. If anything, the greatest fashion faux pas of the VMAs is to show up in something boring. But still, some of the MTV VMAs 2025 attendees took risks that didn’t totally pay off. Here are our picks for the worst dressed of the night.
Frankie Grande
Again, I love a fashion risk, and the MTV VMAs 2025 red carpet is the time to take one. I’m also always glad when someone shows up in a suit that is bold and bright instead of plain black. But this Frankie Grande ensemble is just too much. I’m sorry to say it, but the highlighter yellow tiger stripe suit actually hurts my eyes to look at.
Chance the Rapper
Thanks to the backpack, Chance the Rapper looks like a kid who was on his way to school and somehow accidentally ended up on the MTV VMAs 2025 red carpet. Maybe that’s exactly what he was going for, but it’s an odd outfit choice nonetheless. Above all, it’s just boring. This is the kind of outfit you’d wear casually every day. That’s not the vibe artists should go for with their outfits on the VMAs red carpet.
Rebecca Black
I vividly remember when Rebecca Black’s song Friday went viral. And before getting into this outfit, I have to give her props for turning a potentially embarrassing 15 minutes of fame into a lasting career. That being said, this might be the worst outfit of the entire night. there’s just way too much going on, and it looks like a mess. I have no idea why this top was paired with a skirt that looks like a lace tablecloth. And I was so distracted by the top and the skirt, it took me a minute to notice the fur cavewoman inspired shoes. I’ll say this, it’s certainly not a MTV VMAs 2025 red carpet look I’m going to forget.
