The death of Friends actor Matthew Perry was shocking. At just 54 years old, Matthew passed away in his Los Angeles home from the effects of using ketamine. His loss was felt by everyone, especially those in the entertainment industry who could relate to his struggles. Few people could connect to his addiction more than Charlie Sheen.
Charlie has been open about his history with substance abuse. He made headlines in the early 2010s when he was hospitalized after trashing a hotel room where he was found to be heavily under the influence of alcohol.
He would eventually go to rehab, but he would continue to cause a stir with his commentary on drug use. Eventually, it would cost him his role on Two and a Half Men, where he was the highest-paid actor on television at the time. Knowing from experience what Matthew was going through, Charlie has regrets surrounding his passing.
Charlie Sheen wishes he’d reached out to Matthew Perry before his death

Charlie Sheen and Matthew Perry never worked together on screen. However, they formed a friendship rooted in their struggles with addiction. Matthew mentioned Charlie in his book, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. He wrote how they connected over their mutual struggles, and before he passed, Charlie wanted to reach out to him, and regrets that he never did.
“Matt and I shared a deeper truth we saw in each other … we were both, as [Robert Downey Jr.] used to say, ‘veterans of the unspeakable.’ … We had that common ground instantly with each other,” Charlie told Page Six.
He gushed about how happy he was to be included in Matthews’ book, adding, “And I was like, ‘You go, Matt.’ And then I was going to call him, just reach out and try to meet him up for a cup of coffee or something. And regrettably, I didn’t … Jesus, three weeks later he died.”
