When Todd Chrisley and his wife, Julie Chrisley, went to prison for their alleged financial crimes, their son, Chase Chrisley, turned to alcohol. His grief was massive. So, he numbed down his feelings to help him periodically forget about his troubles. Now, Chase is opening up about this painful period of his life, which he has thankfully since moved on from.
Chase Chrisley “didn’t know how to process” his emotions
In 2023, Todd and Julie reported to prison to start serving out their sentences. The courts found them each guilty of reported financial crimes, sentencing them to 12 and 7 years, respectively. But in 2025, they received a pardon from the POTUS, which promptly vacated their sentences. However, the damage was already done regarding Chase, who struggled with their absence in his life.
During a recent sit-down interview with Tamron Hall on her daytime talk show, Chase explained that his family is extra close. “When you lose the backbone of your family, there’s nothing that can prepare you for that,” he said. So, Chase turned to drinking, he explained, noting that he now fully regrets this decision.
“Did I handle it the best way? No. I learned a very valuable lesson, I did,” Chase stressed. However, Todd, who also appeared on this talk show alongside his wife, Julie, clarified that he was not surprised to hear how his son chose to process this timeline.
According to Todd, Chase has experienced these problems before. “I think around 18, 17,” Todd began, “He would go out, or he would go to the Bahamas or wherever, and I said, ‘You need to stop with this drinking. I don’t know where it’s coming from, but there’s no good to come from it.’”
On that statement, Chase acknowledged, “I’ve always had to learn the hard way, and this was no exception.” Thankfully, Chase is now sober and sharing the spotlight with his family once again via their new series, The Chrisleys: Back to Reality.
