Joshua Allen, who won So You Think You Can Dance Season 4, died on September 30

The news of Joshua’s death was first confirmed by TMZ. A family member spoke to the outlet and confirmed his passing, but they declined to share a cause of death. That information remains unknown while the family requested “privacy and prayers.”
Meanwhile, one of his dance collaborators, Emmanuel Hurd, reflected on his friendship with Joshua. He called him a “very honest, real person,” and the loss has left him feeling shocked.
“He didn’t always do things the way that everybody thought he should, but that’s why he was a winner,” Emmanuel said.
Fans of So You Think You Can Dance will remember Josh from Season 4. He was crowned the winner, with the late Stephen “tWitch” Boss serving as his runner-up. It was the first and only time on the series where two hip-hop dancers held the top two spots. At the time, Joshua confessed that, unlike most of his competitors, he didn’t have technical dance training as a child. Clearly, that didn’t stop him.
“I really wasn’t that technically trained. I would just try to take classes in the summer, and when it was school time I would take class, run track, play football,” he told Entertainment Weekly in 2008. “I would always just train in the summer. So it was never hard training.”
After winning So You Think You Can Dance, Josh went on to serve as a professional dancer on Oxygen’s short-lived weight loss/dance show, Dance Your Ass Off. He also danced in a handful of movies and TV shows, like Footloose and American Horror Story.
