Prince William’s alleged feud with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is public knowledge, and the future king’s rare TV conversation was telling. During an appearance on Apple TV+’s “The Reluctant Traveler,” the Prince of Wales briefly mentioned his brother and then moved on.
Palace watchers see the brief mention as a marker of where the relationship stands now — acknowledged, but maybe not part of the plan ahead.
Prince William talked of Prince Harry in past & not future during a rare mention, source claims
Prince William sat down for a conversation with Eugene Levy, and his brief mention of Prince Harry reportedly spoke volumes about the alleged feud with his brother and his wife, Meghan Markle.
Speaking to the host, William said, “I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I had to grow up in.” He added, “I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation.”
Historian Robert Lacey told PEOPLE that the phrasing was significant, saying, “They are clearly part of the past. He talked about his brother in the past, as part of his life — not in the future.”
Levy, who met William in Windsor for the program, emphasized that there were no restrictions around sensitive topics. He told reporters, “I was not told I couldn’t ask anything.” However, he added, “It’s a very delicate issue.”
Royal biographer Andrew Morton stressed, “If you want the prince to talk openly, you avoid asking about his brother.”
Additionally, the episode showcased William’s outlook as a future king. Over a pub conversation, he stated, “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good.”
A source with ties to the palace told PEOPLE that William aims “[To be] more accessible, more approachable.” In contrast to what biographer Sally Bedell Smith has called the royal habit of “ostriching,” and “avoiding discussions of emotional problems in hopes that they would go away,” William’s remarks hinted at a more open, modern style.
Overall, Prince William’s appearance was apparently indicative of the brothers’ feud while emphasizing that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not part of that roadmap for now.
