Jeff Probst Teases Golden Survivor With Senior Citizens

If you haven’t been paying attention, the old is as good as new. Basically, reality TV fans have been taking a liking to seeing older stars take over the genre. It all started with Gerry Turner and his season at the inaugural Golden Bachelor. After his chaotic season, it was less of a want and more of a need for more.

So, not only did we get the Golden Bachelorette, but Season 10 of Bachelor of Paradise was filled with senior citizens. This has fans debating on which famed franchise they want to turn golden next. One of the first that came to mind was Survivor, which is arguably the most physically intense show on air. Would a golden season work? Host Jeff Probst already has some thoughts on the idea.

Could Jeff Probst host a Golden Survivor?

On a recent episode of his podcast On Fire with Jeff Probst, he addressed the idea of a golden season. While tempting, the host doesn’t think that it would work out logistically. The first flaw he mentioned is the demand in terms of needing enough older contestants to want to be involved.

“I think if you just limit it to 50-and-over casting, it would be difficult to do two times per year. You’re looking at 40 people. I just don’t think it would work, personally,” he explained in the October 15 episode.

The reality TV star also thinks that narrowing the cast to a specific niche takes away from the diversity Survivor is known for.

“In the same way that I would miss it if one gender wasn’t on the show and we just did all women or all men. I think it’s that clash and collaboration, the unexpected partnerships and learning about each other, that’s a big part of our format.”

It’s not like older contestants are unheard of on Survivor, though. There was an entire season dedicated to Millennials vs. Gen X, and there’ve been plenty of 50+ survivors over the years.

Not to mention, one of the many legends of the franchise is none other than Rudy Ernst Boesch. He was cast on the first-ever season of Survivor at the ripe age of 72. Not only did he finish at the second runner-up, but he even came back for Survivor: All-Stars when he turned 75. The point is, age really ain’t nothing but a number.

Survivor is available to stream on Paramount+.
