For 50 seasons, Survivor has been entertaining fans with unique concepts and constantly evolving the game. From returning players to fan voting, the show’s producers have always managed to maintain a solid following thanks to its ideas and, of course, its castaways.
To this day there are still innovative ideas being thought up. One of the old school Survivor contestants is floating around a new idea for a future Survivor season.
Here’s what she thinks could work; and why the idea should be tweaked just a little.
Tina Wesson wants a Survivor First Boot season
She missed the cut of Survivor 40: Winners at War, but if Tina Wesson has it her way, we might see her on the show again. Last week, the winner of Survivor: The Australian Outback shared her belief that Survivor should feature a season of first boots. She, was the first voted out of Survivor: All-Stars.
That would be unique for Survivor. However, it may not produce the kind of entertainment we all want to see.
There have been some memorable first boots, like Francesca Hogi (twice voted out first), Chicken (Survivor: China) and Zane (Survivor: Philippines). That said many others get that dubious distinction for a good reason. Usually, it’s because they are boring television, socially inept and don’t add anything. Truthfully, how exciting would it be to see the singing lady Wanda (Survivor: Palau) alongside Semhar (Survivor: South Pacific) and Wendy Jo (Survivor: Nicaragua)?
A better idea would be to expand Tina’s idea to all pre-merge boots. That is sure be more appeasing for Survivor fans of all kinds. Whether you’re about a challenge beast, a player who got caught playing too hard too fast, or someone being just too intense, a pre-merge season would work much better.
This concept would open all kinds of possibilities. We could see the likes of Natalie (David vs. Goliath) and J’Tia (Cagayan), plus challenge threats Christine (South Pacific) and Matt (Redemption Island) and some strategists like Mari (Millennials vs. Gen X) and Stephanie (Redemption Island).
A first boot season risks us seeing too many duds. Survivor is about blending a cast of people with various strengths and weaknesses. That’s why a pre-merge season makes much more sense.
That’s a concept everyone can get behind because we’ll surely see so many interesting personalities blend in the new school game. Season 50 drew backlash for its celebrity appearances, something which host Jeff Probst previously defended that controversy. So let’s not do a celeb season; let’s try this out, instead.
