Derek Hough Shoots Down Ryan Seacrest’s Wheel of Fortune Claims

Derek Hough is firing back at Ryan Seacrest for his recent claims.

According to the Wheel of Fortune host, Derek was jumping on the game show’s iconic wheel during a taping for a celebrity edition of the program. According to Ryan, Derek and Bruno Tonioli were goofing around during a commercial break. Derek and Bruno currently serve as judges on Dancing with the Stars.

Derek, however, has denied the accusations Ryan threw at him. The two celebrities have a prior history with one another.

Amid speculation of Derek’s inappropriate behaviour, the dance judge is sharing his version of events. On his Instagram story on October 21, Derek had this to say about Ryan’s accusation. “This is 1000% NOT true.” He added, “I would never disrespect a set like that.”

In Ryan’s story, though, Bruno was spinning the wheel with Derek jumping in the middle of it. “If that breaks, we have a real problem,” Ryan recalls saying as they didn’t have another wheel. Because of this, Ryan instituted a new rule on the show to prevent the wheel from potentially breaking.

Thankfully, the host says things didn’t get too out of hand, while adding that he enjoyed his time with the DWTS celebrities.

Ryan and Derek’s sister, Julianne Hough, previously dated from 2010 to 2013. The American Idol host took over the hosting duties of Wheel in September 2024, replacing the retired Pat Sajak. His colleague, Vanna White, has praised Ryan’s talent, saying he did his homework before taking over and it is paying off.

Wheel of Fortune has been on TV in syndication for over 40 seasons. It was nominated for Outstanding Game Show at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards, losing out to Jeopardy!
