Elaine Hendrix Injury Explained After Missing Dancing with the Stars

Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars delivered a spine-tingling slate of dances for Halloween Night. The only problem? One of the contestants wasn’t in the ballroom because of an injury. Elaine Hendrix was actually being evaluated at the hospital during the show.

During the DWTS episode, hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough explained that Elaine and her partner, Alan Bersten, were rehearsing when Elaine began to suffer rib pain. The duo planned to perform an Argentine Tango to 2WEI and Bri Bryant’s Bad to the Bone. Instead, the judges had to score Elaine on her most recent and complete rehearsal tape.

Why Elaine Hendrix was out of DWTS this week with an injury

During the Halloween show, Alan shared what happened during the rehearsal. “Elaine and I were dancing, and all of a sudden, Elaine kind of froze and said she can’t move and she can’t breathe,” he explained. “And something happened with her rib.” Thankfully, Elaine was cleared to continue to compete, as long as she was voted through to next week.

While the rest of the DWTS contestants performed, Elaine posted a message via Instagram from her hospital bed. “So, obviously, I’m not in the ballroom. I injured my ribs during Defying Gravity, and today, they just seized up, and I couldn’t move,” she said in the clip. The doctor said that after some rest, Elaine can return to the ballroom. An emotional Elaine added, “I want to dance. I want to keep doing this.”

The injured actress captioned her message, “Halloween is my favorite, and I’m devastated. I was beyond excited to share what we had worked so hard on, although you’ll see a version of it.” As expected, Elaine and Alan landed in the bottom three. However, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jen Affleck and Jan Ravnik were sent home, so Elaine will dance in the ballroom again. Feel better soon, Elaine!

Dancing with the Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. It will stream on Hulu the next day.
