Can we all agree that 2025 is the year of Jonathan Bailey? The incredible actor is out there doing it all. He’s starring in blockbuster films, winning hearts the world over, and is now PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2025. What could be better? A thriving romance, maybe? Jonathan was once linked to actor James Ellis. Are the two still an item?

Unfortunately, Jonathan has kept mostly private about his social life. That’s saying something for someone who is constantly in the spotlight and isn’t adverse to public displays of affection. However, there have been a few crumbs about his relationship status.
In 2023, Jonathan told the Evening Standard that he was dating a “lovely man.”
“It’s not a secret, but it’s private,” the actor explained. “Having a private life is, for me, completely critical. I don’t know if I would be able to be as confident to speak out on other things if I felt that my whole life was up for grabs.”
So fans knew that 2025’s Sexiest Man was seeing someone (a lovely someone at that), but didn’t learn any more about him. However, that doesn’t mean they’ve split. As Jonathan said, not secret but private.
Fans suspected that perhaps the man was actor James Ellis. Jonathan has only ever been linked with one man in recent years. He reportedly had a romance with the equally private James in 2019. Some media sources say he is a theatre professional and actor, while others say he is a brand manager.
The pair appeared to confirm rumors at the Olivier Awards that year when Jonathan planted a kiss on James before accepting his award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the musical Company.
While neither confirmed their relationship, Jonathan and James were spotted having dinner together in Notting Hill in 2021. Here’s hoping he is the lovely man because James does indeed look quite lovely! And here’s hoping they’re still enjoying dinners together or perhaps “Legos and pizza,” which is Jonathan’s ideal 100th date.
