Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is filming their second season and I’ll go ahead and say it will be amazing. We’ll have crime. We’ll have scandal. We’ll have Mary Cosby quietly chuckling to herself beneath the depths of
fake Yves Saint Laurent voile blouses in her closet. Going into the first season, Jen Shah seemed to get the most attention. She was kind of… insane at times. It was almost as if Jen took a crash course in how to bring the most drama and passed with a 4.0 GPA.
But Jen went the extra mile. Not only did she get her fair share of media attention, she managed to score a quintessential accessory only a few Housewives have – a mug shot. On the bright side, Jen was in full glam when she was arrested, so it will be more like a smug shot. Per the usual Housewife rhetoric, Jen isn’t exactly humble about her affluent lifestyle. Her RHOSLC audition video has resurfaced and now we get our first taste of how Jen spent other people’s money. Allegedly.
Jen Shah has been a total anomaly since her first scene on the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Her husband, Coach Shah, was MIA all the time, and she seemed to fill the void with several assistants called the “Shah Squad.” She bragged about her fancy house, wore full glam every day and was never filmed working and making money, just spending it. Jen’s first season was filled with blowups. She accused Mary Cosby of “effing her grandpa” because she told Jen she smelled like hospital. She blew up on anyone and everyone.
And on Tuesday, the story took an even crazier turn when Jen and her assistant Stuart Smith were accused of being involved in a long-running telemarketing scheme. The two are facing federal charges for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering after conning “hundreds” of victims in a decade-long scam, according to the NYPD. Hey, at least now we have a concrete answer as to how she got so rich.
As with any new cast of the Real Housewives franchise, viewers get to know both the personal and professional lives of the ladies on screen. Such was the case with the premiere season of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. We got to see Mary Cosby as the “first lady” of her church, Lisa Barlow setting up venues for Sundance, Meredith Marks’ boutique and fashion line, and Heather Gay expanding her spa business.
But Jen Shah was always noticeably vague about what she did except to say that she was in marketing. We got a quick scan of her offices during an early episode, but that’s it. She brought her “boss bitch” self to the Shah Squad though, who thanklessly turned Jen into our favorite glam-zilla for the cast events.
Jen Shah can run, (and she tried to, bless her heart) but she can’t hide now that she’s been busted. This is how you get the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City second season started. As you know, Jen is going out in a blaze of leopard print glory now that her ALLEGED criminal activities have come to light. To be fair, most of the viewing audience clocked Jen’s sketchy financial situation when pretty much no one believed someone could have that much designer clothing on a college football coach’s salary.
While the supposed scamming jobs Jen and her assistant have ALLEGEDLY run on people since 2012 blew up in her face, we might have some new insight on Jen’s somewhat high-strung attitude. Nothing can make a girl pop off like the looming discovery of a telemarketing scheme that defrauded hundreds of people. Honey, if you are doing shady business deals, reality television is not the platform for you. Now Jen is about to face the music. Yesterday Jen was to virtually participate in her arraignment, but an overloaded conference call line caused the hearing to be postponed. We see you,
Andy Cohen Bravo fans!
While it is April Fools Day, it’s no joke that Real Housewives of Salt Lake City self-described MVP Jen Shah was arrested this week. She and her assistant Stuart Smith are facing federal money laundering and fraud charges. The two were allegedly involved in a decade’s-long scheme that prayed on “hundreds” of victims, many of them elderly. And the maximum sentence for a fraud conspiracy charge is 30 years, so it’s definitely not all (rented) chalets and champagne for Jen anymore.
All of this went down as RHOSLC is filming its second season. Rumor has it Jen was tipped off about the arrest while filming and left abruptly. The cast was apparently going on a trip to Colorado, but Jen was recently told she can’t leave Utah without permission. She appeared in court on Tuesday after she was arrested, and Bravo cameras might have caught the whole thing on tape. While the whole situation is no laughing matter, this storyline will no doubt make a crazy plotline in Season 2.
Jen Shah’s arrest this week for alleged money laundering shocked Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fans. Maybe for no other reason that she had the bravado to appear on reality TV and showcase her opulent lifestyle while supposedly running a telemarketing scam.
Shah-tastic Jen was more than enough without the alleged felonious dealings. Her outrageous tantrums and reactive aggression solidified a second season of the show. She polarized cast members and viewers alike. But everyone is now paying attention as to how this will play out, both on and off camera.
Jen Shah managed to squeeze 10 seasons’ worth of Real Housewives material in just 1.5 seasons of being on the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. In a turn of events, Jen was arrested on Tuesday and is facing federal money laundering and fraud charges for being involved in a decade’s-long scheme that preyed on elderly people in multiple states. Apparently, attacking Whitney Rose in Vegas, fat-shaming Heather Gay and berating her
minons employees really wasn’t the lowest she will go.
Also, Jen’s “first assistant” Stuart Smith, otherwise known to viewers as Stu-Chains, is facing the same charges. The NYPD states that the pair conned “hundreds” of victims in a scam that ran for at least 9 years. The maximum sentence for a fraud conspiracy charge is 30 years, so things aren’t looking good for the Queen B of the SLC.
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah has had an interesting couple of days. RHOSLC viewers are used to seeing Jen acting extra and exhibiting volatile behavior. She had a melt-down in Las Vegas and was up in Whitney Rose’s face. And her bestie Heather Gay has claimed that Jen isn’t acting up for the cameras. She’s just being her delightful self.
Recently, audio leaked of Jen allegedly screaming at her Shah squad and dress designer Koa Johnson. In one audio clip, Jen shouted “I’m gonna beat the shit outta you in like two seconds.” Jen later refuted claims that she was verbally abusive to her staff. She also sent cease and desist letters to the two Instagram accounts that shared the leaked audio. Jen even supposedly fat-shamed her most loyal ally, Heather.
