The Netflix series Tiger King is wildly popular. Of course, people are going to capitalize on that as much as they can. And, now, there’s a scripted series in the works.
At first glance, the concept for Tiger King just seemed so out of left field. However, it’s really resonated with viewers and there are plenty of pop culture ties to this cast. Those alligators that died in the fire used to belong to Michael Jackson. Doc Antle was a part of Britney Spears’ performance during the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. And there are probably some more links between these big cat enthusiasts and pop culture that we haven’t even realized yet.
In the Netflix series itself, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal appeared with Joe Exotic at the GW Zoo. He publicly supported the zoo and he even donated money. However, he’s changed his stance after watching Tiger King.
Tiger King stars Jeff Lowe and Joe Exotic are not on good terms, to put it mildly. Jeff cooperated with the feds and now Joe is in jail, serving a 22-year sentence for hiring a hitman to kill his enemy Carole Baskin.
In the Netflix series, Joe insisted that Carole Baskin killed her husband Don Lewis back in 1997. He was convinced that Carole fed her then-husband to one of her tigers. Don’s children had nothing nice to say about Carole. They are upset with Carole for all the money she inherited from their father. Pretty much no one had anything positive to say about Carole, except for her current husband Howard Baskin.
The Netflix documentary Tiger King has provided many of us with some much-needed entertainment during this tough time in the world. The saga that primarily focused on Joe Exotic and his mortal enemeny Carole Baskin has captivated us all. And there’s even more content to consume even after the episodes have aired.
The cast members are doing interviews, of course. Fans are spotting them in past pop culture moments. One of them even took part in Britney Spears’ performance of “Slave 4 U” at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. Cardi B even ranted on social media, hoping that Joe would get out of jail. There’s just so much to digest when it comes to this cast of characters and there’s new information on an almost daily basis.
I know I’m not the only one reeling from the Tiger King viewing experience. There are so many unanswered questions. There is just so much to unpack and such an ecclectic group of characters. And by “characters” I mean real people who just beyond outrageous.
Spoiler alert: the series ended with Jeff Lowe cooperating with the feds to take down Joe Exotic and Tim Stark. Currently, Joe Exotic is in jail. Still, that hasn’t stopped him from filing a $94 million dollar lawsuit. Rapper Cardi B even spoke out about what she views as an injustice to Joe. She doesn’t think that he should be behind bars and talked about starting an online fundraiser for him. However, Jeff could not be more proud of his involvement in this whole situation.
Everyone remembers that big, yellow snake from the iconic Britney Spears performance of her song “Slave 4 U” at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. That moment will live on in pop culture history forever and ever. That snake was (and still is) so enthralling that it was easy to forget that there were other outrageous elements of that performance. As a Britney superfan, I honestly had no idea that there were tigers on stage with the pop princess.
But, now we all have tigers on our mind thanks to the hit Netflix show Tiger King. And, yes, there’s a Tiger King connection to this performance. Ever since the show came out, fans are spotting the cast members (and heir tigers) in pop culture moments. Tiger King’s own Doc Antle, you know the one with 644,444 wives, is in the background of Britney’s performance. He is there keeping an eye on the tiger, of course.
I’m not gonna lie, those Joe Exotic music videos we saw in Tiger King were so entertaining. Despite the ummmm….unusual subject matter, I could not help being enthralled. I wasn’t the biggest tiger enthusiast (before watching, obviously) and I am too scared to support any sort of beef against Carole Baskin. Still, I couldn’t help laughing at some of the music videos and the fact that Joe found the perfect Carole look-alike to portray her. Talk about dedication there!
While Joe certainly has an intriguing magnetism, he doesn’t actually have a great singing voice, at least that we can actually confirm. Apparently, he was lip-syncing all of those songs. He was also pretending that he knew how to play the guitar.
Netflix’s latest trending show, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness (Tiger King) has caught the eye of more than just television enthusiasts. One of the questions that never was answered throughout the seven-part docuseries is what happened to Carole Baskin’s first husband, Jack “Don” Lewis. According to TMZ, law enforcement now wants to find out.
The series follows the life of zoo owner, Joe Exotic and the events that led to him allegedly hiring a hitman to kill his number one rival, Carole. Although the supposed plot failed, many viewers were focused on whether she was involved in Don’s disappearance.
