We’ve entered an era where “unity” is the new buzzword on deck. In theory, we are to work with and accept those who don’t necessarily think the way we do, in an effort to bring people together for the overall betterment of humanity. It’s a nice idea, but apparently that particular message of harmony has yet to reach the Real Housewives of Potomac. Lots of things happened during the 5th season of RHOP and unity wasn’t one of them.
Candiace Dillard’s square tissue became a star. Monique Samuels’ African Grey became an icon. There was… a fight. And longtime friends Karen Huger and Gizelle Bryant found themselves on opposite teams, insulting each other through many of the episodes. The Grand Dame and Giz neither resolved their issues or agreed to disagree, so if you think the insulting stopped just because they aren’t currently filming, you would be wrong. Now we learn Karen hasn’t even spoken to Gizelle since the reunion, but she has spoken about Gizelle since the reunion.
I think everyone might agree several shows on Bravo could benefit from a cast shake-up. Even after surviving a controversial season, it appeared the cast of Real Housewives of Potomac would remain intact. To say these ladies have some issues is being generous. From hands-on combat to sketchy “men of God” with more illegitimate children than sense, RHOP checked a lot of unusual boxes.
Viewers will say ta ta to Monique Samuels. Despite a physical fight with Candiace Dillard, Mo originally decided to stay on the show until the reunion changed her mind. There have also been rumors that Robyn Dixon, while not generally disliked, some fans feel she adds nothing to the cast and needs to go sit wherever Juan Dixon is. Obviously Monique’s departure leaves a hole to be filled, but word on the street is RHOP is looking to cast two new people. Is someone’s check in jeopardy? Did having four degrees not make DOCTOR Wendy Osefo interesting? Can we offer T’Challa a spot?
The Real Housewives of Potomac Reunion put Monique Samuels back onscreen after being iced out of the group since her fight with Candiace Dillard. Her name was constantly on the lips of her cast mates, but Monique was largely missing in action for the latter part of the season.
Both Candiace and Monique were able to speak their truth regarding the altercation. They faced each other, but were unable to resolve the situation. Some fans questioned the impartiality of the reunion, specifically Andy Cohen’s role in monitoring the conversation. Candiace had the support of Gizelle Bryant, Robyn Dixon, Wendy Osefo, and at times Karen Huger as well. She also got more time to speak, so it’s not surprisings that Monique’s fans are crying foul. Especially since Monique quit the show because of her treatment at the reunion.
Monique Samuels took her toys and left the Real Housewives of Potomac sandbox. Or did she? I think by now we are all pretty much aware of Bravo’s generous method of allowing fired Housewives to control their exit narrative. Normal policy and procedure is to offer the departing individual their own spin on how they chose to leave. Unless you are Vicki Gunvalson and remain in a state of confused begging until your last day on Earth.
Let’s face it, if it weren’t for Monique lending a helping hand to style Candiace Dillard’s wig, people would still not be talking about RHOP. No one cares about Robyn Dixon’s hats or DOCTOR Wendy Osefo’s degrees. And despite the grandeur of Karen Huger, it wasn’t her living situation that made viewers watch. Monique and Candiace gave the show a heartbeat, and it seemed like no cast changes would happen in the wake of Mo and Candy’s battle royale. Until news that Monique was not returning began making the rounds. Now Monique speaks on what helped her make the decision not to come back to the show she helped put on the map.
The final reunion episode for season 5 of Real Housewives of Potomac seemed damning for the friendship between Monqiue Samuels and Candiace Dillard Bassett. The saddest part was watching Gizelle Bryant try to remain out of the whole thing. Despite piggy backing her storyline-less ass to the debacle all season.
Unsurprisingly, Monique has decided it’s time to leave the show. This group has hit peak mess and manipulation, and it seems to have all fallen on her. That’s not to say she doesn’t carry blame for the physical altercation between herself and Candiace. But does she deserve all of it?
Well folks, THIS IS IT. We have reached the end of the road for this season of The Real Housewives of Potomac. It felt like this day would never come. One of the best seasons of Housewives in recent memory. The fight between Monique Samuels & Candiace Dillard Bassett was one of the most talked about moments EVER. Top tier television.
When we last left the women, Candiace was rushing off set in tears after discussing the fight. Monique however remained emotionless and matter of fact about the altercation. The two contrasting reactions to reliving the events was fascinating to watch. This time, the husbands are joining the women on stage, so hopefully things don’t get too out of control. Although, how bad can it get with creepy Michael Darby out of the picture this time?
This Real Housewives of Potomac reunion is getting nasty really quickly. Monique Samuels’ binder is going to go down in Housewives infamy. Has anyone else ever brought such thorough receipts to shut someone down the way she did Gizelle Bryant. The way she openly read off Jamal Bryant’s phone number was iconic because everyone knows that relationship is a sham. She made the alleged cheating rumors seem a lot more plausible.
We didn’t get much interaction between Monique and Candiace Dillard Bassett on last week’s Real Housewives of Potomac reunion episode. However, all of that is going to change. We’re finally going to dive into THE fight that changed everything on Real Housewives of Potomac. Both of these women have had a lot to say in the last year. Now though, all of that talk is coming to a head because we’re going to hopefully get some real answers.
Season 5 of Real Housewives of Potomac was on fire. Much of the season was driven by the ugly physical confrontation between Candiace Dillard and Monique Samuels.
The incident occurred at a RHOP party in October of 2019 while the cameras were rolling. After the fight, Monique and Candiace slapped each other with second-degree assault charges. In December of 2019, both charges were dismissed.
