Jon Gosselin Dropped From Jon & Kate Plus 8

Gosselin

A lot of changes are occurring in the Gosselin family following the public divorce of Jon and Kate Gosselin after 10 years of marriage and eight kids.

On Tuesday, TLC announced that the show will be renamed Kate Plus Eight, beginning Nov. 2, reports US Weekly. As usual, the show will continue to focus on the lives of the young Gosselin twins and sextuplets, but will now also focus on Kate’s role as a single mother.

“Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family,” TLC president Eileen O’Neill said in a statement. “The family has evolved and we are attempting to evolve with it; we feel that Kate’s journey really resonates with our viewers.”

A source tells PEOPLE, “Given Jon’s recent antics, there was no way the show could continue to portray him as a doting Dad, not while all this other crap was going on.” Those recent antics include dating 22 year old Hailey Glassman, and the most recent one occurring this weekend when he decided to add Hailey’s name to the official Gosselin family website. Hailey’s name has since been removed.

The show’s rating continues to decline weekly. The show premiered with a whopping 9.8 million viewers but now has fallen to a season-low of 1.7 million.

Earlier this month, Kate appeared on The View as a guest host and recently filmed a pilot for a daytime talk show with Paula Deen.

“I’ve been given the gift of gab, so why not use it?” she said at a women’s conference earlier this month.

Jon was also reported to be shopping around for a reality show called The Divorced Dads Club, costarring Michael Lohan, among others.

  1. Joy- I totally agree with you. i just wish it was done earlier.

  2. Forgetting dropping his name, TLC should drop the whole show.

It was only a matter of time… I’m waiting on the show to end all together any day. I used to love watching the show, now I couldnt tell you when it comes on. I’m pretty certain the show will be ending all together soon…

  4. Finally!

  5. Guess who’s gonna need a job??? douche

  6. I missed the whole ‘Hailey’s name on the family’s official website’ brouhaha. I guess that was the final straw as far as Jon and the show’s producers were concerned. He’s been claiming to want out of his contract for a long time now, so he’s probably celebrating… in high style, of course. Can’t wait for his next screw up!

  7. I truly enjoyed the early shows when the clan seemed like a real family dealing with the ups and downs of raising eight children responsibly. They seemed to have a handle on things. That was before Jon became such a whining, spoiled child, much worse than his young children would ever been allowed. It is apparent Kate is the real adult in the family, although I feel she loves the limelight, and the huge amount of money and fame this reality show has brought to the family, and that is why she has tried to salvage what is left of the once popular sideshow. Nevertheless, it is not hard to see why she has had to be so stern with Jon, and less than complimentary to her touchy spouse. To deal with all of those kids without a husband who is not completely there, and so disatisfied he wants out, would be frustrating to say the least. The show has suffered for all of his selfishness, and her rudeness. I am not that excited about watching it anymore. To me, the whole thing had to have been a lie from the very beginning, and I don’t like being taken in like that, especially under the guise of a happy family situation. TLC should take it off the air. The kids do not need to see their parents’ dirty laundry waving in the air waves ad nauseam. How sad for them.

  8. Lin, I see your point, but I miss Kate’s snide remarks to Jon. To me, that was what made the show seem more real than anything else happening on it. The tension between Jon and Kate used to keep the show from being completely drippy-sappy, to my way of thinking. Of course, who could’ve foreseen that Kate would lose complete control of Jon or, better yet, that Jon would end up losing complete control over himself?

As for now, I’m continuing to watch the show, more out of habit than anything else. As for Jon being completely cut from the show, I’ll have to admit missing anyone who provides such great entertainment just by being such an epic screw-up.

This show needs to be taken off the air. This family got off track and they need to be out of the spotlight in order restore themselves. Where is God in all this? This is a family that touts themselves as “Christians”, again another black eye for Christians. In case they don’t know it, Jesus wants them back, but they need to get out of the spotlight and let Jesus work another miracle.
