We are now onto the 12th episode of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, and while it wasn’t as good as next week’s episode will be, it was still very interesting to say the least.
There are two angles one can go with in doing this recap. One is we finally get to meet Tom Staub, the man behind the legend, you know the man who decided Danielle Staub was fit to be his wife and the mother of his children. The other angle is Teresa Giudice of course, who was one of the most searched people on the internet yesterday thanks to the news of the impending public auction of her home items, and her thirst for diamonds, you know considering this episode was taped just a few weeks after she signed off on the bankruptcy documents. Oh what the hey, I say let’s go with both angles!
The episode starts off with some precious family time with the Giudices as they do monopoly night. When Joe wasn’t busy threatening to kick one of his daughters, Teresa decides to bring up their upcoming 10th anniversary. Teresa can’t believe she and Joe have been married for 10 years because “it feels like 5.” Teresa asks the kids for anniversary gift ideas and one of their daughters suggests chocolate and flowers, but bankrupt Teresa makes it clear that’s not good enough. Joe has an even better suggestion, when he jokingly suggests the $100 luxury tax ring, before retracting it, joking saying that he couldn’t even afford that. Must say the financial jokes by Joe are very telling. Notice how they seemed to start just a few episodes ago? Teresa however makes it clear there will be no hanky panky for one month if Joe doesn’t come through, and I can’t help but wonder if Teresa can even go a week with no hanky panky from Jiucy Joe.
Danielle decides to meet up with her friend/party planner to plan a party for herself her daughter Christine‘s sweet 16. Danielle then lets us know she plans to make this a memorable party for herself Christine because she never had a birthday party “thrown to” her until she was 47-years-old. Really Danielle? Not even a party at 1? 10? 16? 18? 21? 30? 40? 45? Well since Danielle is not known to ever lie or exaggerate, I will go ahead and take her word for this.
Christine reveals her idea to donate all proceeds from her party to a charity and Dirty D decides this is a perfect moment to take credit for Christine’s idea because that’s her daughter and she gave birth to her. And I take a moment to ponder how Danielle’s daughters seem to have turned out amazing and well grounded in spite of their mother. Danielle asks Christine if she wants to invite her father and Christine answers yes. Danielle then lets us know that Tom hasn’t been the best father in the world to his daughters, and I can’t help but wonder if Danielle is being truthful about this, or just trying to paint her ex in a bad light out of vengeance, not that this is Danielle’s MO or anything.
Jacqueline and Caroline meet up and yet again Caroline is making perfect sense when she advises Jacqueline to distance herself from the three-faced Kim G. and focus on her daughter.
The Giudices and the Lauritas have a get together during which Joe, who looks rather stressed, ponders what to get his wife for their upcoming 10th anniversary. Joe mentions the 10-year gift has to be a “big one,” bankruptcy be damned. Teresa, who just signed off on bankruptcy papers to the debt of $11 mil a few weeks earlier, is then shown having a conversation with Jacqueline. “I love diamonds, diamonds and diamonds and diamonds,” says the bankrupt Teresa when asked what she wants for her anniversary by Jacqueline. And how genius are the show’s editors for choosing the oh so perfect background music for this ridiculous scene.
And it’s now that time of the show, when we get to see the hotness known as Albie Manzo. This time around, Albie is sporting a buzz cut, which might or might not be slightly taking away from his hotness, and we find out Albie has joined the police academy while waiting to get into a new law school. Must say it’s nice to see a Manzo with ambitions that go beyond the Brownstone.
It’s back to party planning time, and Danielle informs Christine that her younger sister, Jillian, will be performing at her birthday party. And all I can say is move over Kris Jenner! There’s a new pimp extraordinaire stage mother in town. It seems Danielle is also as surprised as we are at how grounded her kids seem to be, because she once again mentions how great of a mother she is. “I must be doing something right,” exclaims Delusional D. Once Christine leaves the room, we hear a shy Jillian say she’s not really excited about performing because she doesn’t want to sing in front of people. Is this just Jillian experiencing normal nerves? or is this Jillian being pushed by her mother to do something she really doesn’t want to do? Not quite sure, but we do see Jillian burst into tears and Danielle attempts to console her.
It’s finally anniversary day for the Giudices and Teresa reveals Joe has a surprise for her. Joe, still looking somewhat stressed and disinterested about the whole event, tries to put on a happy face for his wife. The day starts out with a helicopter ride and champagne. Teresa asks Joe, “Can we go to the Hamptons?” Joe replies sternly, “They’re closed.” Good save there Joe. And since when does the Hamptons “close” and open? Oh well, it doesn’t matter! Teresa is a moron and believes the Hamptons is closed for business. They get to their Jersey hotel and Teresa receives her surprise gift – Diamonds!
And in this scene, we get a clear understanding of why the Giudices are bankrupt with $11mil in debt. Oddly enough, in her one on one interview, Teresa acknowledges the economy has affected Joe’s businesses, but really who cares? They are now debt free and Mama’s got her diamonds! I don’t even know what Joe and Teresa were thinking, if they were even thinking at all. Did they not know their bankruptcy filing would become public knowledge?
This entire scene is just so disgusting and wrong on many different levels. I mean it was filmed only a few weeks after they filed bankruptcy, and Teresa cannot play dumb because she signed the papers as well. The very little remorse I had for these two is completely gone. The only ones that have my sympathy are their kids. And oh yeah, we get a TMI scene with Teresa riding Juicy Joe and umm yeah, moving right along.
Danielle and her kids are getting ready for the Sweet 16 party and as the kids get ready, Danielle mentions the fact that her ex-husband will be in attendance with his new wife. So what’s a drama queen/attention whore to do? Well if you’re Danielle, you spring out your old engagement ring. Yes she really went there, and seriously, who does this? Christine mentions to her crazy mommy the fact that she’s been “divorced for like three years.” Must say it’s never a good sign when the kids have more common sense than the parent.
Jacqueline decides to teach Ashley some kind of lesson or reward or something by driving her to the post office to pick up her summons. Not sure what the lesson is here, perhaps making her walk would have made more sense. Ashley reads her summons and laughs along the way. We find out she is being charged with harassment and assault. Ashley reveals she will be pleading guilty to the much lesser charge of simple assault. Ashley tries to make light of the situation and Jacqueline is not happy with the smart alec.
We see the lavish location for the sweet 16 party, and Christine & her friends getting their hair and make up done. And I wonder who is paying for all this, you know since Danielle is suppose to be broke and all. It seems Danielle read my mind, as she later takes the time to mention that all the party items were donated because the party is for charity. And how exactly is this party for charity? Does she mean the gifts Christine will be receiving will be donated? Will the party-goers be charged a cover charge? Where exactly are these charity proceeds coming from?
While I ponder these questions, Kim G. arrives and Danielle mentions she is hurt by the fact that Tom’s new wife is a few years younger than her, and by a few years, she means two decades. But Danielle is however ready to move on from all the drama, and what better way to move on than to wear your old engagement ring?
Tom and his new wife arrive, and we finally get to see where the girls get their looks from. Danielle rushes over to give them hugs. A few moments later, she decides to give Tom another hug, and judging from Tom’s stern reaction, it’s obvious he’s not buying whatever it is his ex-wife is trying to sell. I once again wonder why this man, or any man for that matter, would decide Danielle Staub was wife or mother material. I simply don’t get it. Not much is known about Tom, other than he is/was the CEO of Aerobics, Inc. The company has however filed for bankruptcy in May 2010. And according to Danielle’s memoir, she met Tom while working at a strip club. His new wife’s name is Colleen Fairman Staub, and based on the information on her private facebook page, they are expecting a son.
Jillian does her cute performance, and Danielle, who’s sex tape was just released in June, mentions the party was a huge success before going on to declare she is the “best mom in the world.”
We get one more mandatory scene with Jacqueline and her husband Chris playing good cop/bad cop with Ashley, and if it feels like you’ve seen this scene many times over, it’s because you have. Ashley yells, Jacqueline yells, Chris plays peace maker, nothing gets resolved and Ashley is still a brat.
And we’re on to the previews for next week, which will bring a major confrontation between Kim G. and Danielle. Should be good.
Watch What Happens - With Bethenny Frankel and Kim G. as guests, I was expecting a much better episode that what was shown, but perhaps I should have realized Jeff Lewis was not on again. Andy Cohen did a crappy job with his Kim G. questions, and we didn’t really learn anything new. Some people mentioned last week that Jeff Lewis should replace Andy on the show, and I can’t say I disagree. Bethenny was however funny in mentioning how Kim G. had managed to finagle her way into being a regular on the show. Oddly enough, the poll question yesterday was who would the viewers want as a mother. The choices? Caroline, Teresa, Jacqueline, Danielle and Kim G. Caroline won the poll with 70% of the votes, with Teresa coming in a surprising second with 19% of the votes.
UPDATE: As suspected, Danielle was indeed just trying to paint her ex-husband in a negative light. Here’s what Jacqueline had to say on twitter – “Their Dad goes to EVERY track meet, dance recital,everything!He also gets them every weekend so I don get why she acts like he doesn’t on tv.”

I think Ashley is a very immature 19 year old. She thinks she knows everything,alot of kids her age do.
I think she’ll grow up and mature, just my opinion.
I have something that has bothered me for a while now. A young lady I know is marrying a young man whose family I know. This young man was quite unattractive until, at the age of 21, his family ‘gifted’ him with a new nose and chin. They do not want the young lady or her family to know about this (as he is marrying “very well”) so they will not have any objections re: potential offspring.
So my question is am I alone in feeling that people who have altered their looks (more than just a little bit) should own up to it to potential mates?
I think about this when I see Danielle. She looks different from her mug shot photo. I think her children dodged a major bullet by taking after their father.
I understand that people don’t like Danielle–but her kids are unlike most kids you see who come from really dsyfunctional parenting. I don’t buy that ‘they had to be the mature ones’ in the relationship. Usually kids that are raised without any values or morals run completely wild–yet BOTH of her kids are very well behaved and polite.
You can say what you want about Danielle–and she’s obviously gotten to the point where no matter what she does, people are going to hate, hate, hate her.
I think she’s unstable–but I also have some compassion for her. I know that woman’s been abused in her life–she’s a classic textbook case of a survivor of cihldhood sexual abuse. I see that she has a lot of problems–but I also see her very bad beginning as a reason for her psychological problems.
But in the case of Teresa, what’s she’s doing is so much worse, really–because she is in complete denial that she’s done anyting wrong. I find her FAR more offensive than Danielle. Truly–and she comes from a home with two parents who loved her–who obviously never had to deal with the pain of childhood sexual abuse.
It’s true that Danielle has some problems–and it is also true that it is up to each of us pull ourselves up from a bad beginning and make positive changes in our lives. She’s not been able to do that. But just as there are some people who are physically stronger, there are some who are psychologically stronger. Danielle is damaged–and we should feel compassion for someone who is damaged by a bad beginning.
She’s done a good job with her daughters, no matter what anyone thinks. Those kids are loved–she definitely loves her daughters and tries to do right by them. And say what you will but they are remarkably well adjusted and nice kids–and that speaks well for the way Danielle treated them with respect.
@Mamasays: What difference would it make if his fiance’ knew he had plastic surgery to change an unfortunate appearance? Would he be less kind than he is now? Would he love his fiance’ any less? What difference does it really make?
Disclosing whether or not you are have other kids from previous marriages, whether or not you’ve been in jail or arrested–these are important things to disclose. Not that a person used to be uglier than they are now. At least that’s my opinion.

I agree with what you said. I think a lot of things about Danielle, trust me, but I do deep down think she’s a “good” person. She seems to have had a very dysfunctional upbringing, made bad choices but I can see her girls are her life, even though she makes it all about her. Granted, she does embarrass them with the porn, body guards and stalking etc. The way that Teresa acts is only showing her kids to be materialistic. I don’t care for any of the NJ housewives but somehow Danielle did raise two good kids, so for that, she deserves some credit.

@57Leslie. I really agree. These two daughers didn’t raise themselves. They don’t seem to have the problems that Ashley has–both of Danielle’s daughters are much younger than Ashley yet both of them are far more mature than Ashley is.
Danielle is very self-centered–but it is obvious she loves her daughters very much. And it is equally obvious that they love her. I do think Danielle was very much in the wrong to do the sex tape and embarrass her daughers like that–but they seem to have the inner strength to cope with it all.

@53 Dyana: Ashley – I so hope (I have good hopes for her) that she can somehow withdraw from listening to those who hype her up and goad her (like the other teenagers on her facebook page) and perhaps go to counseling to find out and understand how to navigate thru this crazy world of Reality TV and all the family dynamics going on in her own extended family.
I worry about the influence she gets from her facebook page from other not yet life-experienced teens who just enjoy the drama at her expense. I really feel for her trying to learn from those around her and not always getting the best advice but just wanting to make friends on facebook and within her extended family.
I was thinking mamasays meant like…their offspring would get that “nose” or “chin”…and not even know where it came from…lol just a thought…

Great recap RT. I have not seen the episode yet but by these comments I can tell I’ll be major pissed at T&J. These people will never learn a lesson because they think they are better than all of us. And something sounds fishy about Albie’s police academy – maybe some help getting in? As bad as DD is her girls are adorable. Ashley not remorseful? I cannot believe it, hahaha. Nothing she did to DD affected her because she’s blogging like an idiot on the bravo site and she’s recently had her nose done – so it’s like she has been rewarded.
I have no hatred or dislike for the cast of RHONJ, some are a bit much too take. Teresa, no need to comment, it’s all been said a million times. Danielle, maybe you’ve been abused and maybe not. Some folks are born off kilter (hence one of my siblings). She seems to have done a good job with her children but the youngest has the saddest look in her eyes. Caroline, I like you, no complaints. Everyone needs a good support system. I rather have you at my PTA meeting then some others. Jacqueline, you seem to mean well but not everyone is likable or will like you. Dina if you truly left to get away from Danielle and raise your kid then I like it. Not many people would let go of their 15 mins. You achieved your goal on the show so moving on was not a bad choice. Hello all, that’s my story, and I’ll stick with it.
@AnitaVacation…..You have said it well about Danielle’s issues. Danielle does seem to love her daughters the best way she knows how. (As far as Christine and modeling, I don’t find that any different than Teresa pushing Gia with modeling/acting.) They are loving and mature for their ages. Ashley is very disrespectful of her parents and far less mature than Christine or Jillian.
Ugh..Teresa and Joe’s whole anniversary mess just made me sick.

God, I wish Caroline would counsel her the way she did Dina and Jac last season – take it upon herself to do what Jac and Chris seem unable to accomplish. Caroline is a good mom and raised some reasonable kids – please caroline, step in and help out. Ashley needs guidance to get into therapy and talk about stuff in confidence with family and a therapist, not on-line where all the feedback is from wantabees.

I just “liked” Ashley on Facebook just to see her status updates…she does need to get a life, it’s unhealthy for her to obsess about Danielle.
It seems to me that Danielle’s daughters are quite uncomfortable around “Mommy Dearest.” It seems that they are programmed and they do what she says so as to avoid her rage. There is something not quite right about those two girls…they actually seemed terrified to speak out of line and it is something I have noticed often when they are in episodes. I actually feel sorry for them and while Daddy Dearest probably loves them, he seems to have moved on in his life.
As I watched Teresa and Joe, it seems to me that they are almost making a mockery of the fact that they are actually broke. Particularly Teresa.

I shared my opinion on this. I know the KNEW, but she has to keep up with the Joneses on camera. She wants to have diamonds like Vicki and Tamara from the OC.
YES! I think they thought the public was dumb like them and would not know about the bankruptcy. I am glad their name is being dragged in the mud with good reason. THERE ARE HORRIBLE PEOPLE WHO TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE SYSTEM. This is a learned behavior!

Sven I don’t think it will happen. Bravo is a business and they are about making money. Although a little bitch and moan is okay, can you imagine what would happen if some of the posters here had a open mike with Bravo. It would make for some great TV, but it might really get more out of hand then that fashion show. That was nothing. There are some posters who want to see Danielle, Joe and Teresa (especially Teresa), shot firing squad style. Andy Cohen once said that he would never vote a housewife as Jackhole so there definitely will be no lynch mob. The little they allow is controlable and profitable and that is probably how they will keep it. It’s like the donkey in Shrek jumping up and down saying “pick me, pick me.” They see you, hear you and know what you want to say, ask and suggest but I don’t think they really care. When this falls apart, they will move on to the next venture. For now, we will have to voice it on any site but Bravo. I could be wrong.

i have that feeling every time i see her painting herself as a victim – like she is trying to manipulate our opinions by scripting her performance – from born again virgin, to low self esteem that needs pole dancing to get a boost, to wearing her engagement ring to demonstrate how she has forgiven her ex…
also, i thought i saw a little eye-rolling going on with her kids last night – like they get it too.

Thank you for your words of advice but I would like to clear up the fact we did not overspend or err, as far as we can tell. We had a serious illness hit in the family bringing some high medical bills our way. Then we had a lay off from a good paying job. I understand people make mistakes on budgeting, etc. What I was trying to express that we were advised to file for bankruptcy in order to save our house. We feel we owe what we owe, no matter the circumstances. We were responsible with our money. Life happens and our fortune changed ( hopefully for only a little while ) I think watching Teresa being so glib and irresponsible over her money is really bothering me because of my present circumstances. Maybe it is time to stop watching this garbage. The fun has been taken away when people like T and J most likely will get away with the theft and continue to live the way they do. I am having trouble paying for food right now and to watch liars and thieves celebrated on a weekly TV show is getting on my nerves. I don’t know why but it was important for me to clear this up, Sven and others who wrote kindly. I am feeling like a drama queen now : ) Once again thank you for your words of support.

Regarding Ashley…..I blame Jacqueline……she should have put her foot down and not allowed Ashley to be a part of the show. I mean look at how Dina handled the show and her daughter’s appearance.
She stated that the show turned out to be not what she bargained for and didn’t want Alexi to be exposed to it. Now that is parenting.
Jac new that she didn’t have control over Ashley and that somewhere along the line she had dropped the ball in trying to be Ashley’s friend instead of her mother.
Ashely is making absolutely no positive contribution to the show. It is asif she would like to be a main housewife herself. She has no business talking about the Staub girls who are much younger, but are contributing so much more to the show.
She is a disgrace bottom line and Jac is to BLAME!!!!!

There are few things I want to say about this show from last night:
- Teresa doesn’t like the idea of being broke at all or being in denial about it. I can tell that diamond ring that Joe gave her is fake. If you look closer to the ring, you can see plastic ring with fake diamond. I bet Joe got this ring from the girls or jewelry for 25 cent machine like gumball machine.
- Danielle… There are few things that I noticed about her and her daughters…
First of all, I can tell that Danielle is not happy to hear her daughter, Christine’s idea of having charity party. Look at her face expression when Christine said it. It is seen like Danielle is disappointed with this idea and wanted to “use” Christine’s birthday money to pay the bills or something else.
Second, anyone notice that Danielle’s ex husband looks like Steve? Maybe Danielle is into Steve type men?
Lastly, I am really disgusted with the fact that Danielle forced her young daughter, Jillian to sing for Christine’s birthday party when she didn’t feel comfortable to sing front of big crowds. Will someone please call children service agency to take Danielle’s two daughters away from her? I bet both girls will be very thankful if anyone report it on them.
- Caroline. I love her a lot and only one housewife that has class and common senses. The problem? It is seem like she doesn’t have much to offer this season. That is something I am disappointed with her about. I am afraid that Bravo might don’t want to renew the contract with Caroline for third season like they did to DeShawna from Real Housewives of Atlanta. I don’t want Caroline to get cut out of this show only if she doesn’t have anything to offer for this show.

And, please, please if you haven’t yet, talk to some bankruptcy lawyers who can explain it all regarding not feeling guilty and the big creditors have insurance against your default, etc.

@74 – momof3 – I agree with you re: Danielle’s daughters – They are somewhat afraid of Mommy – I’m sure when Danielle blows up, the whole county can hear her.
Her two daughters are wonderful. Maybe/maybe not Danielle had something to do with it. Unfortunately, the girls know what’s going on with their mother. (Quick note – did anybody notice how Christine looks like a young Mariel Hemingway?)

I’m so not seeing the “hotness” of Albie. He’s a whiny little mama’s boy and it’s not hard to tell that he’s just not the shiniest penny in the cash drawer.
My guess is that Albie can’t cut it as a cop, either. He’ll have to take classes (reading, exams, etc) and excel in physical training. Unless, like someone else said, he’s just going to be an unpaid rent-a-cop, he doesn’t have a chance … although I’m sure his “family” could use a cop on the payroll.

Caroline would build them an apartment above the garage & that way she could make him breakfast, do his laundrey & tell Ashley how to be a good wife.

Teresa went to a college called “Berkeley.” It’s main campus is in White Plains, NY. It is a “business” and more recently Liberal Arts college. I know years ago it was associated with Boces programs to get kids who dropped out of high school some sort of practical skills…such as typing, stenography etc. I had a couple of friends who went there for court stenography and another one who became a legal secretary. In other words…if you weren’t the brightest crayon in the box, you still had a good chance to attend this school. I’m sure you could find out about this school on-line.
It really makes perfect sense that Teresa went here.
Remember when Jaqueline’s husband suggested that Joe buy Teresa a “fugazy”? Well, that’s slang for a fake, and I bet that’s what he did or it would have been listed to be auctioned.

Okay that article says more than anything I’ve seen yet on the issue of Teresa’s denial. I am a bankruptcy lawyer and have been watching the news articles about the bankruptcy with interest. Joe and Teresa would likely have a chance to make an offer to the Trustee to “buy back” the items up for auction. It appears this is what Teresa is referring to by the “legal wrangling” back and forth. If they make an acceptable offer the Trustee is willing to accept the auction may, in fact, not take place. The devil in the details is what will the Trustee be willing to accept not to go forward with the auction.

@65 BigBrown…..Wondering same thing. Teresa is a complete featherbrain. Her blog sounded like it was written by a somewhat “educated” person and not an uned’caded person. Teresa constantly butchers the English language. The college or university that she graduated from must be very proud.
