Dancing With The Stars Recap: Maksim Has Meltdown, Lashes Out At Judge Len Goodman!

Monday night’s episode of Dancing With the Stars brought us bright lights and big attitudes!

It also brought some top notch performances from front runners J.R. Martinez and Ricki Lake. It is however the dramatic showdown between pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy and judge Len Goodman that has fans talking this Tuesday morning!

The hotness known as Maksim or is it ‘Mad Maks’ rather blew a fuse during the live competition last night following some harsh criticism by Len. After dancing a sexy rumba with his partner/soccer player Hope Solo, Len stated it was Hope’s “worst dance of the season.”

“I always feel like there is so much there, and for some reason it hasn’t come out,” stated Len, 67. “This is your worst dance of the season in my opinion.”

Maksim, 31, made it clear he did not agree with Len’s comments which promtped Len to tell him: “I’ve been in this business for 50 years.” Maksim was less than impressed as he promptly retorted: “Then maybe it’s time to go!”

In fact judge Carrie Ann Inaba had to step in as she scolded Maks by telling him, “Don’t be disrespectful like that!”

After receiving a low score of 20 from the judges (Chaz Bono was the only contestant to score lower with a score of 19), Maksim was unapologetic backstage! “With all due respect, this is my show. I help make it what it is,” said Maks to host Brooke Burke Charvet, leading to a slightly awkward moment.

As for Maks, the ballroom seems to be split as some of his pro dancers supported his opinion while others made it clear they did not agree with his stance.

Lacey Schwimmer agreed: “They always have their favorites, and this season it’s completely clear who they are. I won’t name names, but we are not one of them,” she said. “I’m actually proud of what Maks said. A lot of us don’t get the chance to stand up for us and our partners.”

Karina Smirnoff, who also happens to be Maksim’s ex-fiance, did not share his point of view. Karina told E! News, “We danced right after Maks so I just wanted to make sure that the judges made sure that we didn’t concur with Maks’ opinion…He needs a hug.”

Hope stated she was “so grateful” that Maks defended her while Maks has no regrets about his outburst. Maks said “I’m extremely proud of her. This is the first time she came out and she did exactly what she planned and there was no stress and no tension and it was a great performance. And I really liked dancing with her tonight. And to get comments that was the opposite of what it was, it wasn’t even upsetting, it was more like, ‘I have had enough!’ You have an opinion. I also have an opinion…The judges will say, ‘Hey, this is show business, this is supposed to be fun.’ Well, I had fun tonight.”

Below are the full scores from last night -

J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff: 29
Ricki Lake & Derek Hough: 29
Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus: 24
David Arquette & Kym Johnson: 23
Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke: 22
Hope Solo & Maks Chmerkovskiy: 20
Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer: 19

It will be interesting to see if Maks’ outburst turned off the voters and affects Hope’s chances of staying on the show! The results show airs tonight on ABC.

  1. Maks complains and moans in his moody chip-on-the-shoulder way but when he’s watching Derrick he knows what a great choreographer looks like. Derrick outshines everyone. Mark B has been voted off twice because the girl he danced with wasn’t popular and he never complained.

Maks should remember last season when he made it to #2 because of Kirsty’s popularity. It wasn’t because the dances were good.

Mark B. never complained? Surely you jest. Mark Ballas is the biggest jerk DWTS has ever seen and several times has had a meltdown revealing himself to be completely devoid of class and decency.

  3. I don’t care of Mark B. I think he is also extremely arrogant. Is he a great dancer? Yes but I always think he overdances with is partner. If it’s an attempt to pull is partner forward, I think that this backfires and he makes his partner look worse. Just watched Maks on GMA. He is not sorry for the comments he made but he say something I did find interesting. He revealed that up until about 15 years ago, he lived in a place where he was not allowed to speak as freely as he can here in America. I am happy he is here and enjoying the freedoms of living in America, I believe he is now an American citizen. There is a lot to be said for tact and class. I think that Maks could learn some of this and he will again return to the favor of the fans. He mentioned Maks and his opinion of Derrick and how Derrick is on the side of the judges. If he is unhappy with the way dancers and their pros are partnered, address that before next season. I say they take a week where it won’t affect the outcome and for the remaining dancers… do a total switch and give Nancy to Maks and Hope to Derrick… see if there is a difference in their ability to improve… just a thought..

  4. Maks must think the show is called “Dancing with Maks”. Whether stars or minor celebs the show would not exist without the celebrities. Maks needs to have a major attitude adjustment, maybe some time off would help. Manners and common courtesy would go a long way.

I think Maks makes a valid point coming from a viewer that has watched every season of DWTS. Clearly the judges have their favorite pro dancers ie Derek Hough in the beginning of the season and the other stars/pros don’t stand a chance. I think some of the other pros agree w/Maks but are afraid to give their honest opinions

  6. I agreed with Maks that it was Hope’s best dance. I agree that the contestants were not being judged equally. I think Chaz, instead of being discriminated against, was given a pass through most of the season. Other than the 1st dance with was OK…he has been getting the same marks as others who did much better. I think his great smile and attitude have gotten him much further along than he would otherwise have gotten. I think Lacey is kidding herself.. although from rehearsals it seems she had the same impression that Chaz was passing through pretty easily..w/o showing much stuff which she attributed to her own ability and said she couldn’t “carry him anymore.” Lacey should rewatch all their dances together. I think that’s exactly what Maks was referring to when he though his partner was being held to a higher standard than others who were being passed along because of their attitude. I do not think Maks should have been rude by saying Len should probably think about quitting. That he should apologize for.

  7. The guy is an idiot! The judges are just doing their job and he is always so abrasive, get over it! You don’t make the show, you are a nobody, you could be replace tomorrow by another dancer more talented than you! there are millions out there who would take your job and not be a cry baby!

  8. Maks is a crybaby. These people are celebrities. Hope is not a very good dancer. Perhaps because she is so athletic. She does not have any fluidity. I really don’t understand how Chaz made it as far as he did.
I think that he got a free ride because of his issues, or she?? I’m confused!!!

  9. Maks is an idiot. I don’t know what he thinks of himself. He will never be in the league of Derek or Mark B…even Louie is a better choreographer than him. His abrasive and ghetto attitude will take him nowhere even if he’s paired with a good celebrity with potential. Get off your perceived high horse Maks..hope you are replaced soon…same with Lacy…cry babies….you make DWTS less entertaining because of your antics!

  10. Mak has a right to feel how he does but he needs to express himself with more tact. His comment was disrespectful and most of the time when you are so arrogant it’s hard to get your point across without coming off as a jerk.

  11. Maks was disrepectful. He could have been more diplomatic about it. He is a good dancer and has gotten some good partners in the past. Derek is a fabulous dancer. I watch the show to see him dance. It would be nice though if he were given a challenge once in awhile. See what he could do.

  12. Maks was clearly out of line and probably caused his partner to lose the competition. Very disrespectful and unprofessional.
