Chris Harrison bashes UnREAL

Bitter, thy name is Chris Harrison.

When asked about Lifetime’s critically acclaimed scripted show UnREAL, which takes viewers behind the scenes of a The Bachelor-like reality show, Chris did not hold back. According to him, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY is watching UnREAL because it is DISRESPECTFUL and TERRIBLE.

UnREAL on Lifetime

Chris ignored the water cooler buzz, critical success, and early season 2 renewal of UnREAL, which was co-created by a former The Bachelor producer, and focused on its lackluster ratings.

“Really, the main difference that I have seen is that people watch The Bachelor. It’s complete fiction. As much as they would love to jump on our coattails – they were begging for us to talk about it and for people to write about it – at the end of the day, no one is watching,” said Chris. “I mean, absolutely nobody is watching that show.”

Why isn’t anyone watching UnREAL? “It is terrible,” he said. “It is really terrible.”

Chris insisted he can appreciate a good parody, from the likes of Saturday Night Live or The Tonight Show for example, because they “validate” The Bachelor‘s “cultural impact.”

“You only do that when you are part of the vernacular,” chided Chris. “Because if not, you can’t make a joke. It’s a sign of respect. The way that UnREAL took it, it wasn’t a sign of respect. They were trying to take it another direction, but it does not work that way. UnREAL is just a really bad attempt, and they got what they deserved. And that is, no one is watching the show.”

Well this “nobody” is watching UnREAL. And I love it. I still watch The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, too, but not for the right reasons. I mean, it’s never an amazing journey, their future wife/husband is probably not in the room, it’s never the most dramatic rose ceremony ever, etc. For me, it is all about the Bachelor in Paradise.
