This week’s print edition of Reality Weekly claims that The Situation is in a spiral and it’s all taking a toll on him, despite his seeking helping at the Cirque Lodge in Utah. A friend tells the magazine that “Mike projects this image that he’s in love with himself, but inside, he’s really fragile and insecure. He has a really dark side and a lot of demons, which is why he developed a problem with addictions”.
The friend claims that Mike has to drink in order to feel comfortable in social settings and that he beds multiple women in an attempt to boost his fragile ego. “He gets such an ego boost if a woman wants to sleep with him. He’s always trying to top himself; how many girls he can have at once, how many Miss Hawaiian Tropic models he can sleep with, how many different girls he can have in one day. ”
In what seemed like the briefest rehab stint in recorded history,The Situation checked out of the swanky Cirque Lodge treatment center in Utah yesterday!
TMZ reports that The Situation was seeking help to “get control of a prescription medication problem” he had “due to exhaustion,” and entered the facility on March 20th where he spent a mere 14-days!
Upon getting out of rehab, the Jersey Shore star was spotted at nearby airport looking ecstatic and even took a photo with a fan before boarding his flight. The photo is below!
Mike is due to begin filming the 300th season of Jersey Shore very soon! Which is worrisome, as reality television and healthy behavior do not seem like a good mix! No word on Mike’s post-rehab plans just yet!
UPDATE: The Situation took to his Facebook Page to let fans know he’s “back stronger and better than ever!”
“The Situation is home!! I just want to thank everyone for their support and words of encouragement,” he added. So when is he getting treatment for referring to himself in the third person?
THOUGHTS – WAS MIKE’S REHAB STAY LONG ENOUGH? SHOULD HE RETURN TO REALITY TV?

After a lackluster fifth season with decent ratings, a few folks expected Jersey Shore to ride off into the shore sunset. However, the show still dominates its time slot on Thursday nights and MTV decided to bring the show back for the sixth time. Another factor in MTV’s decision to take us to the shore again was likely the continuing media blitz on Snooki‘s recently announced pregnancy, now in its fourth month.
Last week, news leaked that The Situationhad entered rehab for a prescription drug problem and alcohol addiction. One might think pregnancy and addiction issues would prevent cast mates from appearing, but as it turns out, MTV expects all cast members to return.
However before you think Jersey Shore will turn into a new version of Sober House, TMZ is reporting that MTV plans on “phasing out” Snooki and The Situation and replacing them with “newer, wilder castmates.” In other words, replacing them with people who will get drunk at work and still pee on themselves at Karma.
Both castmates will allegedly receive limited screen time. While, I might believe this rumor in Snooki’s case (she is already filming her spin-off and a pregnant Snooki hanging out at the ramshackle shore house might be too weird for viewers), the Situation may insist on returning full-time. A new report on RadarOnline alleges that he does not plan on giving up his lucrative club appearances after he finishes up his current rehab stay.
It’s the late nights that may be contributing to Mike’s problems. A source describes his problem, “Mike was in a vicious cycle of not sleeping because of the illegal substances that he was taking, so he began using prescription pills to help him sleep.” This is consistent with the rumors that have persisted throughout the years of Mike using cocaine. Per the insider, Mike was the one that checked himself in, saying “The good news is that he was the one that wanted to get help and checked into rehab. Hopefully with the proper treatment, Mike will be able to lead a sober life.”
Unfortunately, his definition of “sober life” includes hanging out at clubs. An insider says, “Mike doesn’t want to give up his paid club promotional appearances: he loves the attention that he gets from the ladies and the money is great.” Who can blame him? It would be hard for anyone to give that up. The source continues, “Mike leads a very expensive life and he doesn’t want his lifestyle to suffer because of his decision to go to rehab. He is very upset that stint in rehab has become public knowledge, because he doesn’t want it to affect his bottom line. Mike’s brother handles his club appearances and he has been telling club managers that Mike has no plans on giving up the nightlife.”
This is Mike’s second attempt at going sober. Previously, he had been to a hospital in Florida before his début on Jersey Shore. Since the first try didn’t work, it’s sad to hear that Mike might not be willing to make the lifestyle changes to sustain his sobriety, like leaving the party atmosphere of the shore house and avoiding night clubs.
His father tells Radar, “For me, after years of dealing with his addiction, years of dealing with all the bulls**t, this wasn’t a 16-year-old kid. The guy was a 27-year-old man. I was just hoping he would be able to stand up.”

TELL US: DO YOU THINK THE SHOW WILL SUFFER WITH LESS SNOOKI AND SITUATION? DO YOU THINK MIKE WILL STAY SOBER?
It was widely reported yesterday that Jersey Shore‘s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino entered rehab. Initially, the reality star famous for his abs and drama stirring, attempted to deflect the issue at hand by claiming that he had checked himself in “for much needed rest and recuperation.”
This isn’t an unusual catch-all excuse; many celebrities check into treatment for “exhaustion” and are unwilling to give specifics. However, in a post on his blog, SitchNews was updated with this statement: “You can’t believe everything you hear about ‘the situation’ with The Situation. This is just like the child hood game of ‘telephone’ – someone hears a small rumor and blows it out of proportion.” That was posted yesterday at 11:24 a.m.
Later in the day at 4:46 p.m., a new statement was posted with the true reason Mike checked into rehab. The Situation writes:
“I want to set the record straight. I have voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion. I have spent the past several weeks getting treatment for this problem and recuperating from my work and appearance schedule. I appreciate my fans support and love you guys.”
Mike’s change of heart may have stemmed from the fact that sources went to TMZ and revealed the location of his facility, Cirque Lodge in Utah, and provided details of his behavior. Sources tell TMZ Mike is “telling people he’s gained weight” and “has made specific diet requests from the chef at the facility.”
In fact, TMZ is also reporting this morning that Mike is in rehab for both alcohol and prescription drugs. Sources say he has been “very open” with other patients at Cirque about his drinking, stating that his club appearances escalated his alcohol use. Mike’s issues with alcohol is reportedly posing an issue for MTV as let’s face it, Jersey Shore is pretty much about getting wasted and acting stupid!
Not surprisingly, a source also says that Mike hasn’t been humbled by his recent rehab check-in and “is making damn sure everyone remembers how wealthy and famous he is.” Some things never change.
MTV announced this week it would renew Jersey Shore for its sixth season, despite the fact that its other biggest star, Snooki is not only pregnant, she’s currently filming her spin-off. Two shows will feature pregnant Snooki! A sober Snooki will be a sight to behold; even casual viewers are familiar with her constant state of inebriation and a new report alleges she’s having a hard time letting go of her constant companion: alcohol.
“She’s vowed not to drink, but Snooki is definitely tempted. Her friends are a little worried about her because it’s such a big change and not one she was really ready for. She’s having a hard time adjusting to being sober 24/7.” This isn’t surprising since she had a hard time staying sober for even one shift at the Shore Store, much less long stretches of time.
In fact, since this pregnancy was a surprise, Snooki drank during the first weeks, unaware of what she was doing. She has admitted to doing so in the press, but an insider says, her admission is the tip of the iceberg: “She’s admitted that she was drinking a lot at New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas, but the truth is it’s way worse than she’s letting on. She was on a total binge over the holidays — it was one party after another, so now she can’t help but panic a little.”
Snooki is also very worried about weight gain. She very publicly reached her goal weight of 98 lbs recently and the surprise pregnancy is throwing her for a loop. Alarmingly, she is determined to maintain her weight loss throughout her pregnancy. An insider says, “She worked so hard to get back to her best shape and now the pounds are piling on, which is natural but that doesn’t make it any easier.”
There are even rumors that she isn’t eating food fiancé Jionni LaValle is preparing for her, to you know, nourish her unborn child. “Most of it hits the trash when he’s not looking. Snooki doesn’t see anything wrong with it but it’s definitely pretty worrisome, the last thing she should be worried about right now is her figure.”
According to the report, “Jionni is telling her not to worry about it, that she’ll have no trouble losing the baby weight but she’s still really worked up about it.” We hope she starts eating!
The Jersey Shore reunion airs tonight on MTV at 10/9c.
TELL US: WITH SNOOKI’S PREGNANCY & MIKE’S ADDICTION ISSUES, IS IT TIME FOR MTV TO THROW IN THE TOWEL? SHOULD MIKE RETURN TO THE SHOW? THOUGHTS ON SNOOKI’S PRE-NATAL DIETING?
Sources tell the site that The Sitch a.k.a. Mike Sorrentino, 29, has spent the last couple of weeks quietly getting treatment for a substance abuse problem.
The Situation’s substance abuse issues doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as there have been widespread rumors that he had both a drinking and drug (cocaine) problem. Add in the fact that he earns $15K to $50K to make club appearances and party around the world–something he has done for the past 2 years–and you get a recipe for disaster.
TMZ points out Mike’s odd behavior on some episodes this season, including the camping trip, during which he can be seen acting jittery, sweating profusely and acting bizarre. Sources add that he was “acting paranoid” during the filming of the last season.
However, Mike’s rep is not confirming the news, only issuing a non-denial denial in the form of this statement: Mike “has spent the past several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule.”
MTV and The Sitch’s costars are reportedly happy that he is getting help and hope he’ll be well in time to start filming season 6, which MTV just announced this week.
