The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that a new VH1 spin-off is coming to town. The network, which was once known for music videos back when MTV first started straying from music, is now known for some fighting, catty women. Its hit Basketball Wives now features two different series in Miami and Los Angeles, as well as the spin-off Baseball Wives.
Now the same has happened for Love & Hip Hop, as the franchise is expanding to include some lovely ladies of Atlanta.
Season 2 of the hit show, which centers around women in the hip-hop industry, averaged close to 3 million viewers, with 3.15 million tuning in to watch the last episode. Those numbers compare to RHOA viewership. For VH1 to hit those kind of benchmarks is huge for the network which is testing the waters with these bickering Betties.
The article cites, “Atlanta, of course, is known as a major town for hip hop. Several folks in the hip-hop/R&B world from Atlanta have already taken part in reality shows, including Keyshia Cole, Toni Braxton, Chilli, Monica, T.I. and Tiny and Kandi Burruss, to name a few. And if you go back a few years, there was Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston.”
Apparently, if you can’t sell your music, you need to be showcasing yourself on your own reality show, and it seems that Atlanta is the place to do it. In fact, TLC has already announced that its new reality show Preacher Wives will be filmed in the Georgia hot spot.
Casting for the Love & Hip Hop spin-off has not been finalized, though, it is being rumored that these ladies are in talks to join the cast – rapper Diamond, video model Summer Walker, rapper Rasheeda, and exotic dancer Gigi Maguire.
Meanwhile the reunion for the current season airs tonight at 8/7c on VH1. However, it’s being touted as more of a “special episode” than a reunion, seeing as several of the ladies couldn’t handle being in the same room with one another. I guess John Salley just doesn’t have the referee skills needed for this bunch!
Show producer Mona Scott Young revealed on twitter that they couldn’t film a reunion because some of the cast members wouldn’t be in the same room together. While it’s been rumored that those cast members are Chrissy Lampkinand Yandy Smith, sources are stating Chrissy is the lone one who refused to be in the same room as Yandy.
On tonight’s “special episode”–aptly titled “Reality Check”–Yandy speaks with producer (and her mentor) Mona Scott Young about the role she played on the show.
In the preview clip posted below, we find out it was Yandy’s nemesis Chrissy who originally wanted her on the show. That, however, changed as soon as Scott decided to make Yandy a regular on the show, much to the dismay of the soon to be Mrs. Jim Jones.
Explaining her decision to increase the camera time for Jim Jones’ former manager, Mona tells Yandy: “You were funny, you were charismatic, we wanted to see more of Yandy.“
This still doesn’t explain why Chrissy has so much rage towards Yandy. And it’s that rage that is causing the reunion to be nothing more than the ladies being interviewed separately. Where is the fun in that?
Of course, we know that even individually, the women can bring the drama as evident in the clip below, Chrissy is quick to remind Yandy, “B*tch, you on MY show!” Yikes! Once again Chrissy, you need a hobby! One that doesn’t involve Jim or bickering with the people in Jim’s life!
The news series with a working titled ofTamar & Vince “will showcase Tamar Braxton and husband Vincent Herbert as they navigate their hectic lives, from Tamar’s solo album to Vince’s busy career as a successful music producer.”
Production on the show begins in March, and WE tv has ordered eight, one-hour episodes. “We are so very excited for this amazing opportunity,” said Tamar. “With our family series, Braxton Family Values, we aim to show audiences the true meaning of family and sisterhood, and with our new show, marriage. Our journey as two driven individuals that love as hard as we work is one we think audiences will relate to.”
The series will also follow Tamar in her ongoing pursuit of pop super stardom with hubby Vince helping and supporting her every step of the way. The press release promises “viewers will get an inside look at their complicated yet devoted relationship, including how their upscale lifestyle must adjust as Vince recovers from a recent life-threatening health scare.”
Tamar & Vince is scheduled to premiere in fourth quarter 2012. No word yet on whether Toni Braxtonis super jelly over her sister’s spinoff!
TELL US – THOUGHTS ON THE NEW SPINOFF? WILL YOU BE WATCHING?
On the last episode ofBraxton Family Values and pretty much every episode before that, viewers have watched Towanda Braxton struggle to take care of her family while her deadbeat husband Andre Carter refuses to get a job! And despite her so called separation from Andre, the two continue to live together.
In an interview with Art Terrell of Atlanta’s KISS 104, Towanda gets put in the hot seat and tries to justify her open marriage with the mooching Andre, who refuses to care for his family.
“You know what, with me being on the road all the time with my sisters and filming and stuff. I needed somewhere there of course with my kids. And if I’m not there, their father should be there,” said Towanda of why she wants to continue living with Andre.
Towanda continued, “With the kids, we do things together. But as far as our marriage we’re separated. I think that because you are separated and you’re not with that person, you don’t have to be mean and nasty. It doesn’t have to get ugly.”
When the host insists they’re not separated because, you know, they continue to live together (albeit in her sister Trina Braxton’s house), Towanda insists the economy is to blame for that. “We don’t sleep in the same bed. We’re like roommates… There are so many people now that are going through the same thing that I’m going through because of the recession, because of the economy. It’s affected so many people,” she stated. Uh uh.
Maybe it’s just me but in watching last week’s episode it seems Towanda still has feelings for Andre or perhaps she’s simply scared to be alone.
Moving on to Toni Braxton, who this season has been accused of sibling rivalry, particularly being jealous of her youngest sister Tamar Braxton and her growing popularity.
In an interview with Essence, Toni states: “I’m a little disappointed about what’s on the blogs, and people thinking that I don’t want to help my sisters, or that I want to make them perpetual backup singers. People have to remember that this is a reality show and some things are done for entertainment. I love my family, I’ll do anything for them. It makes me not want to do reality show anymore because I wouldn’t want anyone to look at my family and me in a negative light.”
“I love Vince, he’s great, but I thought it was a conflict of interest. He manages everyone in my family. I do think Tamar was disappointed because it became this public thing, and people thought her husband wasn’t capable. Its nothing like that, Vince is great for other people, for me as a family member, way too much,” says Toni. “There’s a little bit of truth to the idea that you shouldn’t mix business with family. You can’t separate when it’s family or business. If something goes wrong, I can call my manager and yell and cuss. I can’t do that to my brother-in-law, that’s not cool.”
So what’s going on between Toni and ex-husband Keri Lewis? “We’ve gone out on a few dates, I’m not gonna deny that,” says Toni. “When you have kids with a person, and you really love a person, but you realize that being together is not an option right now.”
When it comes to her comments about fame changing people, Toni admits fame has changed her sisters just a tad. “I do think success has changed some people. My sisters want to go the Ivy [restaurant in L.A.], and all those places with the paparazzi, whereas I’m like, ‘okay, I’ve done that. I don’t want to get dressed up to go eat.’ But I understand them because I was the same way when I first got into the business. I wanted to be seen, so I get that, because when you’re new in something you’re supposed to relish in it,” says Toni.
Toni also makes it clear there is no rift between her and her sisters, insisting the reason she’s been missing out on promotional appearances with them is because she was sick.
TELL US – YOU BUYING WHAT TOWANDA’S SELLING OR DO YOU THINK SHE STILL HAS FEELINGS FOR ANDRE? DO YOU THINK TONI IS JEALOUS OF TAMAR’S POPULARITY?
As previously reported there will be plenty of drama to go around this season. For starters, Toni Braxton has fired her manager/brother-in-law Vince Hebertand reports claim there is a rift between Toni and her sisters.
Also, in the season trailer (below) we see the Braxton sisters struggling to deal with Tamar Braxton and her over the top antics.org as they feel her ego is now more out of control due to all the attention she received from the first season!

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON THE SEASON 2 TRAILER & TONIGHT’S PREMIERE?
The Braxton Family Values cast is breathing a sigh or relief today as Vince Herbert, husband of Tamar Braxton, has been released from the hospital.
Vince was hospitalized two weeks ago after suffering a blood clot in his lungs. The Braxton family immediately rushed to his side, even cancelling key media events to promote their show’s second season.
TMZ confirms today that Vince is now doing much better and is expected to make a full recovery.
In other news, there will definitely be a lot of drama to go around when the second season premieres next week. The NY Post reported last week that Toni Braxton has fired Vince (also happens to be her brother-in-law) as her longtime manager. By the way, the firing came before the hospitalization.
A source reveals that Toni “won’t be anywhere near Tamar. This has caused more family problems.”
Toni’s rep also confirmed she fired Vince, most well known for working with Lady Gaga, stating Toni “has a great personal and professional relationship with Vince” while adding that the Braxtons are “still very close.” Ai ya ya.
The new season of Braxton Family Values premieres Thurs, Nov. 10 (9/8c) on WE tv.
I actually watched the entire first season of this show and it was GOOD! Tamar definitely makes the show.org with her over the top dramatic antics. Must say I’m looking forward to the season 2 drama!
