According to PEOPLE magazine, Ava Grace Strickland was born in Dallas, weighing in at 6 lbs., 13 oz. Ava Grace is the first child for the couple, who tied the knot back in December 2009 in Mexico.
“Our lives have changed so much in the last two years and today we’ve been blessed with the best change ever, our beautiful baby girl,” Melissa, 27, said in a statement.
Melissa, who was famously dumped by Jason Mesnick following their engagement on The Bachelor, dated Tye on and off for two years, before rekindling their romance in 2009, and getting engaged just four months after her breakup with Jason. Congrats to Melissa & Tye!

Melissa, who tied the knot with hubby Tye Strickland last December, confirms the good news to the magazine. “It was a shock. We weren’t even trying,” says Melissa, who is due in February.
“It’s the most wonderful surprise in the world,” she adds. “It’s such a blessing.” Melissa, who was famously dumped by then fiance Jason Mesnick on national television last year, has since had her streak of good fortune. She appeared on Dancing With The Stars last year and is now set to co-host the upcoming Bachelor Pad which debuts August 9th.
Melissa also credits hubby Tye, 29, with helping her stay calm, saying she can’t imagine having a child with anyone else. “He’s actually cried more than I have,” she tells Us. “Tye is caring, he’s funny. He’s going to be a great dad.”
As for the sex of the baby, Melissa who just bought a new home near Dallas with Tye, says she’s hoping for a boy while Tye wants a girl. “We’re going to find out as soon as we can,” she adds.
And this time around, Melissa, who is happily married to Tye Strickland, is not vying for a rose. The 27-year-old Dallas native is returning to co-host Bachelor Pad,with Chris Harrison.
Bachelor Pad is an all new ABC show that will feature previous contestants from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette seasons, as they live together in the mansion and compete in a series of challenges and dates for a chance at winning $250,000 — and a second chance at love.
“I’m excited.” Melissa tells PEOPLE. “It’s fun. It’s a brand new experience for me. I’ve never been on that side but I’m anxious. I’m excited and ready to start.”
Melissa opens up in the latest issue of InTouchWeekly about her wedding details and Tye. The former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant and GMA correspondent married Tye, a Dallas-based insurance executive, on Saturday, Dec. 12 in a romantic ceremony in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Invited were over 200 friends and family. It was their second ceremony as the first took place in the U.S. to make sure their union was legal.
Melissa tells InTouch magazine she was “fine” until ‘Here Comes the Bride’ started playing. “I think everything hit me at once. My dad started to walk down the aisle, and I just stopped him. I grabbed his arm, and I was like, ‘Hold on,’ and I started crying. And I saw Tye, and bless his heart, he had these big tears in his eyes, too. It was very emotional,” Melissa explains.
Tye was also taken back, saying: “When I saw her, I just lost my breath – like I was in a football game and had the wind knocked out of me … I’ve never felt that way in my whole life, and I just couldn’t help it. She was the most gorgeous bride I’ve ever seen in my life, and it was amazing. It was absolutely perfect.”
