Basketball Wives LA Recap: BBW Meets WWF–Get In the Ring!

On last night’s Basketball Wives: L.A., Imani and Laura need action, Malaysia designs baby bling, and the sisters Govan can’t wait for Draya to get in the ring…literally.

After the wedding, everyone heads to the clerb to celebrate with the happy couple. Gloria remarks that she thinks Jackie and the girls are taking it hard that Draya was a no-show. Um, why? They all seem to pretty much dislike her, but whatevs. They can’t focus on that when Imani starts crying to Jackie about how lonely she feels and how she’s given up on love. Crying to the bride after her wedding. Sounds like someone is trying to steal some wedding thunder, and now Imani is the center of attention. No one seems to mind, though, and the ladies group-hug it out.

Jackie and Doug’s pillow talk the following morning is about how happy Jackie was that her mom got to see the wedding via Skype, as well as how she is less than thrilled that Draya didn’t attend. The couple is flirty, and then the bed starts revolving around in a circle. Do what? Elsewhere in the hotel, Imani, Malaysia, and Laura meet for brunch to nurse their hangovers. Imani blames Patron for her meltdown the previous night, and the girls genuinely feel badly for her. Laura actually gives some sage advice…although it’s not so sage now knowing she’s back together with Gilbert. Malaysia is very thankful for her husband after hearing their stories.

Malaysia meets Draya for lunch to find out why Draya didn’t come to the wedding. Malaysia hopes it wasn’t her fault for Draya’s absence. After all, she’s the one who opened her mouth about Jackie’s reservations about extending the invitation. Draya assures her that she was on the fence way before that…and that she never got a formal invite. Jackie just called her up one day and asked her to dance at the wedding. Pole dance? Draya is not a fan of the group’s penchant for gossiping about her. Malaysia tells her that as the new girl she needs to get a thicker skin as she will continue to be a topic of the ladies’ conversation.

Laura pays a visit to Dr. Jenn for a therapy session. Dr. Jenn’s facial expressions are the appropriate mix of “hmmm, interesting” and “how the hell did I get myself into this?” with a touch of “please don’t beat me up.” Laura wants help managing her anger, which she believes stems from Gilbert’s controlling nature. The pair agrees that Laura has a lot of sh*t going on, and Dr. Jenn advises her to get some stuff off her proverbial plate. Laura actually seems very self-aware, and she makes an appointment for another counseling session.

Gloria and her fiance Matt are kicking it at home because they are homebodies. They love to be at home. They are super low-key. We get it already. Matt has organized a golf tournament to raise money for cancer as his mother died from the disease three years ago. Gloria really wants to get Jackie involved so she suggests to Matt that they go on a double date with the Christies. Gloria then asks Matt his opinion on Botox, and she wants to throw a Botox party. Even though he finds the idea ridiculous because she’s only twenty-five, he agrees to fund the party in exchange for extra time with the “baby-maker.” Their handshake makes it official.

Gloria, Imani, and Laura head to the gym for some quality time with their personal trainer. Imani wants to firm up before heading back into the dating game. Laura is a major horndog, with Imani coming in at a close second. The poor trainer is kind of being sexually harassed as Imani discusses how she hasn’t had sex…with another person…in two years. T.M.I. Laura thinks Imani needs to get poked. So classy!

Jackie confronts Draya about missing her wedding, and Draya tries to explain her earlier conversation with Malaysia. She tells Jackie it didn’t seem that Jackie really wanted her there. Oh no she di-int! Jackie lays it down for Draya. First of all, if she didn’t want to invite her, she wouldn’t have. The fact that Draya received an invitation in spite of the other ladies thinking it was a bad idea should speak volumes. Jackie questions why Draya claims to want to be accepted yet she didn’t come. She doesn’t care what Malaysia said, only Jackie knows Jackie. And Jackie will knock the taste out of a b*tch’s mouth if she gets put in the middle of petty drama. Draya should have called Jackie, call up Jackie, she’s got Jackie’s number, she best call her…you get the idea. But, no harm no foul. Jackie accepts Draya’s apology (if by accepting I mean she berates her and then vows to move on) and all is well. Draya reveals she is over these grizzly bears women.

Malaysia has started her own jewelry line, and she wants to implement a children’s line complete with diamonds. She meets with a jeweler and he loves, loves, loves her idea and her designs…although his facial expressions say otherwise. They decide they need to determine a reasonable price point based on what parents are willing to spend on their kids. $700 to $3000 sounds about right. Seriously? Kids lose stuff all the time! That’s why you buy their jewelry at Wal-Mart! But a child losing a $1500 diamond encrusted friendship bracelet? I just can’t fathom this nonsense.

Jackie and Gloria meet for lunch, and the newest topic of conversation is what Malaysia told Draya. Neither of them can believe that Malaysia didn’t mention that to Jackie at the actual wedding when everyone was wondering where in the world Draya could be. The two aren’t quite sold on Draya either, although Jackie insists she could tell that Draya was disappointed to miss the fun. I’m so confused. Did I just watch the same confrontation she’s discussing? Gloria feels that the ladies need to include Draya is a fun daytime activity. You know, something neutral…like kick-boxing! The ladies think it will be the perfect opportunity to hash out some things.

The sisters Govan are meeting up for some bonding time when Laura receives a phone call informing her that Draya has been talking about her behind her back. They are bleeping out the name, but I get the feeling Draya is talking about Laura’s behavior to someone who may be relaying it to Gilbert. Laura is upset that she wasted an ass-whupping on Malaysia. Good thing there’s that group mixed martial arts session planned!

Malaysia and Draya are the first to arrive at the M.M.A. class, and hurray! There’s a stripper pole. Draya is ecstatic and shows off her skills. Malaysia takes a turn, but she’s not as coordinated. The other women show up so Draya gives them a quick show. The instructors teach the women proper form for kickboxing, and Gloria and Jackie take the first turn at cage fighting. Next up the sisters get in the ring, and they are uber competitive. Laura calls Draya into the ring after Jackie advises her to fight back. Laura starts laughing when Draya asks Laura not to break her boobs. And then they go at it…

Next week, the instructors get in the cage to break up the madness, and Laura is on a mission to find sex…for Imani.

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE EPISODE AND THE RECAP? WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON DRAYA? WOULD YOU BUY YOUR CHILD A PIECE OF JEWELRY FROM MALAYSIA’S LINE?
