When so much reality gossip is petty and, let's be honest, a bit gross (Brandi Glanville's latest, anyone?), it is so nice to hear of reality stars using their power for good. Real Housewives of Atlanta's Peter Thomas and Cynthia Bailey are stepping up to the plate to help out an off-duty police officer who was shot while working his second job as a security officer. Don't even get me started on how the people who protect us don't make enough money…

After hearing the news that Officer Christopher L. Smith was shot in the face and leg while working security at an apartment complex not far from Peter's Bar One Tapas Lounge, the Bravolebrity is giving $5000 to double the Crime Stoppers Atlanta reward for information leading to the shooter's arrest.

Access Atlanta reports that Peter believes the shooter intended to kill Officer Smith and he hopes his pledge will prompt other local businesses to add to the reward. Peter says, “This is a challenge to business owners. They should match my $5,000 to get this cop killer off the street.”

Peter continues, “I wouldn’t want to hear that somebody who was trying to protect us was shot. If this person will shoot a policeman, he’ll shoot anybody.”

Citing the 2009 murder of a local bartender, Peter is convinced that the $50,000 reward raised was crucial in putting the killer behind bars. He shares, “Not a day goes by when we’re closing the bar that I don’t think about that. The reason they arrested that guy had a lot to do with the reward.”

Kudos to Peter for his good deed, and we hope that Officer Smith will have a quick and complete recovery.
