Bethenny Frankel Talks Her Relationship Advice Book, Her Return To RHONY, And Her Weight

Bethenny Frankel

It is a big day for Bethenny Frankel – her new book, I Suck At Relationships So You Don’t Have To, is out today and season seven of Real Housewives of New York kicks off tonight. Bethenny appeared on The Today Show yesterday to promote her book and her return to RHONY. She also addressed the scrutiny over her weight.

The book raises the question, why would anyone want relationship advice from Bethenny given her nasty divorce from Jason Hoppy and the demise of her relationship with Michael Cerussi? “I’m owning it,” she said. “I’ve learned more from my mistakes than I have my successes in everything. I was broke not so long ago. In my business, I always wanted to be successful, and I made a lot of mistakes and I really had no idea if it would ever happen for me. It’s the same with relationships. I can still give advice on something that I’ve made a lot of mistakes in. It’s about… ‘do as I say, not as I’ve done.’ I’m still on the journey in that regard.” Yeah I’m still not sold on the idea. Brandi Glanville might as well write I Suck At Social Drinking So You Don’t Have To while we’re at it.

Bethenny admmitted that she didn’t want to return to Real Housewives of New York. She did, obviously, but she made a point to say it wasn’t because she had no other options.

“I didn’t want to come back,” said Bethenny. “People say that because of the failure of my talk show that I had to come back. I was offered Shark Tank and Dancing with the Stars and Cinderella and all these different things, but I wanted to come home again.”

Bethenny added that the upcoming season is “really funny” and she enjoyed her return in the end. Ha. She might be the only one to say that though.

“I really never thought I would go back,” admitted Bethenny. “It had gotten to a point where I didn’t enjoy it anymore, and now, I’m so glad that I waited because I’m really enjoying it. I respect the women. I respect what everyone’s going through. We are all at different times. Some of them I’ve known for many years. It feels like I’m going back to high school… like a high school reunion!”

Bethenny made a point to emphasize that the issues on Real Housewives of New York are “real” because many fans of the Real Housewives franchise have come to expect manufactured and/or violent drama. “I’ve personally never seen someone smash a glass at someone else or rip someone’s hair extension out or flip a table,” she said. “I’ve personally never seen that, and I’ve seen a lot. I do think it’s real, and we’re going through real things.”

About the scrutiny over her weight, Bethenny said, “Yeah, I am thin.”

Bethenny snarked, “I mean, I have a brand called Skinnygirl, so it is not a big giant mystery. You can’t please everybody. You try to please everybody you end up pleasing nobody. Sometimes I do agree that I look too thin, especially when I’m tired, especially when I’m haggard. I do eat. There are nutritionists that comment that I don’t even weigh 100 lbs… I weigh 115 lbs. I’ll be happy to get on the Today show scale. If you have one! Do you have a scale?”

“People don’t talk about people who are overweight… imagine being like, ‘Wow, that person looks really overweight,’ and keep talking about it,” she added, obviously oblivious to the criticism of Kelly Clarkson as of late. “That wouldn’t be nice. But that’s not something I’m going to complain about.”

Tonight is the premiere of season 7 of The Real Housewives of New York and we’ll be live-tweeting the fun!  Tune in with us!
