Teresa Giudice And Joe Giudice Hit With $551,000 Tax Lien!

Teresa Giudice offered big bucks for post prison interview

Will the money woes never cease for Teresa Giudice?! Just days after saving her mansion from foreclosure, the IRS hit Teresa with a $551,000 tax lien. Well, $551,563.00 to be precise!

It looks like Teresa will be spending her Real Housewives Of New Jersey paycheck before she’s even earned it. In October the IRS filed a lien against Teresa and Joe Giudice seeking recoupment for nine years of unpaid tax bills.

The lien, on file with the Morris County Clerk, states that Teresa and Joe failed to pay their taxes from 2000 – 2013. Which of course we already know.

The timing of the lien is curious – according to NJ.com the lien was filed the day before Community Bank of Bergen County, announced it was canceling foreclosure proceedings against the Giudices. The Giudices had been paying $10,679 per month and had not made a payment since December of 2014.

Part of Joe and Teresa’s 42-count indictment included tax fraud. The feds discovered Joe had failed to pay taxes on approximately $1 million dollars of income from 2004 – 2008. AKA, the years Teresa was flashing hundreds of thousands in cash on Real Housewives Of New Jersey while simultaneously filing for bankruptcy!

As part of Joe’s 2014 plea deal, he actually plead guilty to 1 count of failing to make a tax return, and 12 months of his 41-month sentence is actually a result of that charge. Next year Joe will report to FCI Fort Dix in New Hanover Township, NJ to begin serving this sentence.

TERESA, however, never plead guilty to any counts of tax fraud (nor was she charged).

So – has the government uncovered new information about the Giuidce’s financial dealings from those years? Or have Teresa and Joe been failing to make their restitution payments? A percentage of their restitution (they owe $414,588) includes the unpaid tax debts.

Teresa and Joe are on a payment plan with the government, which includes wage garnishment. If they fail to make the payments on-time (or are remiss), the government can therefore seize assets – including their mansion! A lien is only issued when the IRS has made repeated attempts to collect a debt.

Teresa and Joe’s attorney James Leonard Jr (who appeared prominently on Teresa Checks In) has said the couple is up-to-date on restitution payments. So why is the government going after them with a lien?
