Mendeecees Harris Speaks Out About Prison Sentence; Explains What Led To Crimes!

Mendeecees Harris & Yandy Smith

Earlier this week Mendeecees Harris received an 8-year prison sentence for his role in a drug trafficking ring

It’s heartbreaking news for the Love & Hip Hop star who is married to Yandy Smith and the father of two young children, but Mendeecees now says that he takes full responsibilities for his actions and explains why he turned to a life of crime in the first place.

At the sentencing Mendeecees told a federal judge that his children are responsible for his decision to turn his life around – a choice that came all too late! Ever since (having children), I’ve been trying to right my wrongs,” he said in a plea for leniency. Mendeecees, who also grew up without a father in a tough neighborhood,  says he turned to the drug trade as a means to survival. Unfortunately his children will also spend the majority of their childhood without their father.

As he prepares for a life behind bars, Mendeecees explained his choices and past in an instagram post

“I want you all to understand something. I completely accept responsibility for all that is going on. My transition to be a better person a productive person started well before this case,” Mendeecees wrote. “However in my past I made some bad decisions.”

Mendeecees cautions others to learn from his mistakes. “Young men let my life be an example to you now before it’s too late. Better who you are now in your children’s lives and in society so you can change the path of your fate,” he pleads. “Lack of opportunities, a fatherless home, the unforgiven neighborhood and circumstances you grew up in can no longer be your excuse. Trust me I tried. And it doesn’t make the pain your family feels any different.”

“Young man educate your self and break the cycle. Don’t become a number on the DOA (dead on arrival) list or on the incarceration list.”

It sounds like Yandy plans to stick by Mendeecees through his sentence! “To my wife and children you are all strong and well prepared for this. This is just another brick laid down towards our house of happily ever after , walk with your head held high knowing I would never past the buck and put another family through what we have endured. Continue to walk in faith and love as you’ve done so well.”

“To my peoples thank you for all the encouragement and support please continue to encourage my family. Thank you again all,” Mendeecees concluded.

In a separate instagram post, Mendeecees continued to thank fans. “The over flow of support and love and has been overwhelming. Appreciate all your comments, prayers and encouragement but no more sad talk. It’s time to celebrate life, love and happiness tomorrow isn’t promised for any of us.”

Mendeecees‘ brother will also serve time in prison for his role in trafficking millions of dollars worth of heroin and cocaine through upstate New York.

I wonder if Vh1 will continue to film Yandy as she embarks on a life without Mendeecees, and how they will feature his sentencing and incarceration. I also think this is the perfect time for Yandy and other wives of incarcerated reality stars like Phaedra Parks (and Teresa Giudice who will be leaving prison in a few short weeks), to do a sit-down about their situation that can serve as a teaching tool to other young women and men!

TELL US – DO YOU THINK MENDEECEES HAS LEARNED FROM HIS MISTAKES? WILL YANDY STICK BY HIM?
