In A Man's World

Bravo’s New Show In A Man’s World Is About Women Temporarily Morphing Into Men

One of the things I like about the Bravo network is they aren’t afraid to take chances on airing new and different material. Not every show has to be about housewives gossiping behind other’s backs and then denying it. Ahem, like a certain train rumor from Real Housewives of Orange County’s Vicki Gunvalson…or was it Tamra Judge? Or Shannon Beador? The mystery continues…

A few years ago, Bravo decided to take the leap into scripted TV series with shows like Odd Mom Out, Imposters, and Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. All very good shows, which unfortunately ended up cancelled. Bravo even produced a drama, Dirty John, which got Connie Britton an Emmy nomination. Now they are going back to their reality TV roots and are debuting a new show with a very different twist.

Bravo’s The Daily Dish reported that Bravo will be premiering a new limited series, In A Man’s World. The show follows “four women as they temporarily morph into men to see how the other gender lives.” So now they get to spend their time pretending they don’t know how to multi-task! I kid, I kid.

Each woman will get their own episode that “explores the differences in what life is like for men and women in society, their careers, and their cultures.” The women “go about their daily lives at work and home” and apparently even fooled “their loved ones with their new male alter egos.”

How might they fool their loved ones you ask? For one, a team of special effects make up artists will morph the women into men. And after watching the trailer, their transformation reminded me of Sacha Baron Cohen’s shape shifting face in Who Is America? In that it looks pretty good, yet oddly fake at the same time.

The women will also be trained to walk and talk like men. They have a lot to learn for their two day undercover experience. That’s not enough time to truly understand how the others live, but hey, they only get one episode each.

If you are having some doubts about the show, it might ease your mind to know that Oscar winner Viola Davis is one of the executive producers. She is pretty amazing, so I’m crossing my fingers that she worked some producing magic for this show.

Some of my favorite films are about girls going undercover as boys, like Just One of the Guys and She’s the Man. And this show seems to be the reality TV version if that premise. Overall, I’m definitely interested to know how this turns out. It will fascinating to see what everyone’s experiences are like.

TELL US – ARE YOU PLANNING ON WATCHING IN A MAN’S WORLD? WHAT DO YOU THINK THE WOMEN WILL EXPERIENCE ON THE SHOW? DO YOU THINK THIS WILL BE A HIT OR A MISS FOR BRAVO?
