Below Deck Captain Lee Rosbach

Captain Lee Rosbach And Kate Chastain Dish On The “Problematic Personalities” On The New Season Of Below Deck

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s back already!  Below Deck fans can rejoice and get their next guilty pleasure fix because Season 7 premiered just a week after it’s spinoff, Below Deck Mediterranean, ended.  And despite being only one episode in, it’s never to early to start speculating about the crew.  The holy trinity of reality TV questions that we can ask ourselves are- who will cause drama?, who will hook up?, and who will go home?  Because on this show, there is always the threat of an envelope with a plane ticket home.

Captain Lee Rosbach is back in fine form, navigating Valor through the immaculate waters of Thailand.  Kate Chastainunsurprisingly, returns as Chief Stew.  The only other familiar face is Ashton Pienaar who has been promoted to Bosun.  Fans may know what to expect from these three already, but what about the rest of the crew?

Captain Lee and Kate gave a teaser interview to HollywoodLife about the personality clashes this season.  Captain Lee hinted at drama escalation by opining, “that’s never a good thing.”  Kate elaborated, “I think it was actually a difficult season for me for a lot of the personality reasons that were on board.  There was just so much drama. Watching the trailer back, I was like, ‘oh, I forgot that happened. Oh, I forgot that happened.'”

That trailer was a doozy.  And certainly one crew member stuck out as a instigator.  Both Kate and Captain Lee single out Chef Kevin Dobson as a cause of major drama.  Kate revealed that ,”the chef, that’s always a big conversation piece.” Captain Lee said of him professionally that, “he wasn’t performing up to his abilities.  He was, and then he wasn’t.”

So obsessively labeling hundreds of plastic storage boxes doesn’t a good chef makeKate dished that Kevin’s quirks were both professional and personal.  “I just never knew what to expect from him at any time,” Kate said, “personality, chef-wise, he was just full of surprises, and the only thing that wasn’t surprising was that he was nuts, but just like every other chef. It was just like a different flavor of crazy.”

Bravo certainly likes to cast unstable chefs.  And also now to cast chefs with weak stomachs.  But are the personality quirks indicative of the entire profession or is production just pulling the worst of the worst?  Certainly this will be an interesting season.
