Candiace Dillard Gained ‘Respect’ for Ashley Darby After ‘Pivotal’ Conversation

Candiace Dillard Bassett and Ashley Darby have had their fair share of arguments and fights throughout their time on the Real Housewives of Potomac. After Candiace’s physical altercation with Monique Samuels during Season 5, Ashley’s defense of Mo drew a line in the sand. Since then, the two haven’t seen eye to eye.

But could the tables be turning?

As you all know, there was a massive brawl between two recurring cast members toward the end of filming Season 8. Since the fight happened with Ashley’s friend, who doesn’t like Candiace, it’s easy to think this would’ve divided them further. But according to the reality star, that’s not the case at all.

“The fight happened at the very end of filming,” Candiace told Page Six. “And we actually had a really pivotal and important conversation about that at the finale. It gave me a lot of respect for Ashley.”

Are Ashley and Candiace moving forward?

Despite their differences in the past, Candiace surprisingly had pleasant things to say about her RHOP co-star, adding she was raised by a “good woman.”

“It was like, ‘OK, Sheila raised you. She raised you right,’” she continued, saying, “I love Sheila.”

Candiace and Ashley have been been at the center of some of the series’ biggest feuds. Despite it all, they’ve chosen to move forward. “We have both had a lot of growth over the years,” she said, describing her growing relationship with Ashley. “There is a mutual respect there that you kind of see us go through and talk through [this upcoming season].”

Where does Ashley stand with Deborah?

It’s always upsetting when there’s a physical fight on the Real Housewives. Even more unfortunate is that this occurred between two recurring characters. Ladies that didn’t even get cast photos.

“It’s a horrible turn of events, and it’s unfair,” Candiace stated. “And we shouldn’t have to be subjected to that kind of calculated violence and evil because somebody was not raised right.”

Ashley spoke about the fight briefly in September 2023. “I’ve made my stance on violence pretty clear, and I’ve maintained that, and even though, like, I love Deborah as a person, and I know her as a mom, that’s how we met each other,” she said on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast.

“I didn’t agree with that action, so we’re taking some space.”

As for Candiace’s response? She’s glad to hear it. “It just shows me that in spite of all of the tumult and the drama and not agreeing all the time or seeing eye to eye that Ashley has a moral compass, or somewhat of a moral compass.”
