If you watched The Bravos from BravoCon this weekend, then you definitely heard Andy Cohen’s hilarious Real Housewives of Potomac joke about Juan Dixon. During his opening monologue, Andy made a joke that he was thankful Bravo paid for the hotels so Juan didn’t have to do it. The crowd had a huge reaction to the joke, and Robyn Dixon laughed it off.
However, it turns out that behind the scenes, Gizelle Bryant tried to get Andy to take the joke out of the segment. In an interview with Us Weekly, Gizelle spoke about the conversation she had with her boss before The Bravos. Apparently, she thought his joke was way too harsh for her fellow Green-Eyed Bandit.
Too soon?
Gizelle was especially sensitive to Andy’s BravoCon roasting because, at 2022’s Legends Ball, Andy made a joke about Gizelle’s questionable fashion choices. Gizelle didn’t like the joke and got a little upset, so they ultimately edited the moment out of the episode.
To avoid another situation like that, Andy ran the hotel joke by Gizelle to see if she thought it would land. Gizelle didn’t think it was funny. She didn’t think it was reasonable, just shady.
“I didn’t like that,” Gizelle, told the outlet. “Full disclosure: I saw him first before he saw [Robyn], and he asked me, should he do the joke or should he cut it? And I said, ‘Cut it.’ And he’s like, ‘Yes, definitely, brilliant. Cut it! We’re gonna cut it.’”
Andy and the team decided to cut the joke but then asked Robyn for her take. She had a completely different perspective. She thought it was funny, and she encouraged Andy to leave it in the script.
“I can laugh at myself. I can laugh at situations,” Robyn explained. She continued: “I know how ridiculous the situation sounds and I can laugh at that and acknowledge it. And so yeah, when [Andy] was like, ‘There’s a joke that I was going to put in,’ … I was like, ‘Well, tell it to me.’ And he told it to me. I was like, ‘Oh yeah, put it in.’”
Who would have thought that Robyn would be a better sport than Gizelle? Either way, there’s a lot more to say about Juan’s questionable behavior on Season 8 of The Real Housewives of Potomac. New episodes air on Sunday nights at 8/7c on Bravo.
