Dancing with the Stars host Alfonso Ribeiro is sending love and prayers to his friends Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert. On December 11, Alfonso posted an Instagram photo of the couple on their wedding day in August 2023. He asked his followers to pray for them, as Hayley remains in the hospital. “Please send your prayers to @hayley.erbert and @derekhough and family,” the former DWTS competitor wrote. “They mean everything to me and our family. Put love in your heart and send it to them.”
On December 7, Derek released the somber news that his wife of less than four months was in the hospital. “At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington, D.C.,” he wrote on Instagram, “my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition.”
The next day, he posted an update and expressed his appreciation for the outpouring of well wishes. “Words cannot express how grateful and thankful we are for the support and love that you have given us,” the DWTS judge wrote.
Inspired by her “strength” and “resilience”
Hayley’s “strength, and her resilience” have always been an inspiration to Derek, but even more so in the past few days. “She is now on the long road of recovery,” he wrote on Instagram. The couple was in the middle of their Symphony of Dance tour when Hayley unexpectedly became ill.
“The kindness that we’ve been shown in this incredibly unfathomable, and life-changing time is immeasurable,” the former DWTS pro, now judge wrote on Friday. “The offers of assistance that have poured in have been so humbling and appreciated. Our hope is that as a family, we can somehow and someway pay it forward.”
Derek expressed his appreciation to the “first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her.” He concluded with a plea for “prayers and positivity during this time.”
Messages of love and support flooded the comment section. Past and present members of the DWTS family, including Peta Murgatroyd, Jenna Johnson, Allison Holker, and Harry Jowsey, offered hopes for a quick recovery.
