Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough and his wife, Hayley Erbert, have been battling some serious medical issues. On December 7, 2023, Hayley suffered a medical emergency at the end of the couple’s tour performance. After becoming disoriented, Hayley was rushed to a hospital for surgery.
“She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy,” Derek said. According to Cedars-Sinai, during a craniectomy, a portion of the skull is removed to relieve extra pressure on the brain.
Then Derek asked for prayers for Hayley as she prepared to undergo a second surgery. “She is going in for surgery this morning (December 20, 2023) to replace a large portion of her skull that was removed during her Craniectomy,” Derek shared.
Derek gave an update on Hayley’s condition post-surgery
Afterward, Derek shared an update with his fans via Instagram. “With immense relief, gratitude, and overwhelming joy I’d like to share that Hayley’s cranioplasty surgery has been successfully completed as planned. My sincere appreciation goes to the exceptional medical team,” Derek stated. “Their expertise and steady hands were pivotal in this journey, ensuring a smooth and successful surgery.”
Derek continued, “We are profoundly touched by the outpouring of support and prayers from each of you. Your thoughts, prayers, and positive energy have been a source of strength and comfort for us during this challenging time. It’s truly heartwarming to know how much love and care surrounds us,” he added.
Additionally, Derek expressed his gratitude for all the support and love that they have received. “This surgery marks a significant milestone in my wife’s recovery journey, and your support has played a crucial role in getting us here,” the DWTS judge explained. “We are filled with hope and optimism for the future, knowing she is on the path to a full recovery, surrounded by such a loving community.”
