Below Deck’s Captain Kerry Titheradge Discusses ‘Close Bond’ With Kids

Below Deck fans are getting to know the Below Deck Adventure alum that took over for Captain Lee Rosbach for Season 11 of the hit reality TV show. Australian native, Captain Kerry Titheradge, recently revealed on Episode 2 that he is a father to two children. They live in Florida with his ex-wife, and the reality TV star spoke about being a long-distance father.

Captain Kerry is a “family man”

Below Deck viewers often hear about the challenges of working in the industry and having a loved one on land. More often than not, it’s in the context of a lover or spouse. Yet Captain Kerry is often away from his children.

During the most recent episode, Kerry described his children as “the best kids in the world.”

“My son, Sawyer, he’s 13, and my daughter, Shaye, she’s 11. My son, he’s a huge character — big heart, he’s like his dad. He’s very, very sensitive. My daughter, she’s an absolute firecracker. We have a very close bond,” Kerry said.

“Ever since they were small, I was gone 10 months of the year,” he continued. “But, as they got older, I was able to find jobs where I was home more often, [because] I don’t want to miss out on part of their [lives]. I want to be there for them; I’m a family man, 100 percent.”

When Bravo’s The Daily Dish followed up with the reality TV star about life as a father, Kerry shared the special activities that he does with his kids when he is home.

“My son and I, we get proper training in jiu-jitsu,” Kerry revealed. “I’m doing that really for him. It’s a good investment for him … I think it’s a fantastic sport. Then, I’m doing it for me because when he gets tough enough, I can defend myself.”

As for Shaye, she enjoys “DDWs,” or Daddy Daughter Wednesdays. Kerry takes Shaye out for a Starbucks run before school.

“That’s our thing. Just her and I, you know, she can just talk my head off, or not. It’s amazing.”

The divorce was not an easy one, but the reality TV star has taken care to stay bonded with Sawyer and Shaye.

“I’ve got a really good connection with both of my children, and that’s the silver lining from, you know, something horrible happened in my, my life,” Kerry concluded. “And being able to work on myself, and get myself to a good place, and humble myself, and take a look at who I was and how I am, and improve. I would never have looked at myself otherwise.”
