Luann de Lesseps Reveals How She May Have Inspired Kyle Richards

Influential words from Luann de Lesseps? The former Real Housewives of New York star may be proven a trend-setter in the Bravo-sphere. In the wake of Leah McSweeney’s allegations of being pressured to consume alcohol by network producers, it’s worth noting that her co-star, Luann, was filming sober at times. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards also swore off alcohol.

So without negating Leah’s experience, it’s also part of the same reality that Kyle and Luann chose not to drink while filming. During a recent interview, the RHONY alum spoke in support of her former co-star as well as shared her belief that her sobriety had influence on Kyle’s.

Kyle thought Luann was “so much fun” sober

On the March 7 episode of Melissa Gorga’s podcast, On Display with Melissa Gorga, Luann revealed that she filmed Season 1 of Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip in 2021 sober. Kyle was cast in the same season, and Luann revealed that the RHOBH star was interested in her decision.

“I did not drink the entire trip because I was sober. And you know what Kyle said to me? She goes, ‘You know what Luann? You are so much fun. Even without drinking.’ And I think I inspired her a little bit not to drink,” Luann said.

“Nobody is forcing you to drink,” she added of filming with Bravo.

“Nobody is pouring alcohol done your throat. It is your choice to pick up a drink or not,” said the cabaret star. “I understand what [Leah] is saying because there is a lot of pressure around it. Because there lot of drinking around it. But if you don’t want to drink, you don’t go to the bar.”

Perhaps Luann did plant the seed for Kyle’s lifestyle change. But it seems that her friendship with country singer, Morgan Wade, has been the most influential. Alongside being sober, the reality TV star picked up an enthusiasm for working out and getting tattoos.

The Halloween Kills star has not “had one drop of alcohol since July 15, 2022.”

“I don’t miss it,” Kyle said in an interview with Us Weekly. “After two glasses of wine, I’d wake up and feel [like I was] dragging. Like, ‘I’m going to skip my workout today. I’m tired, and I feel like having In-N-Out.’ It was a domino effect. I was never a big drinker, so you’d think, how much of a difference could it make? But it really does.”
