Summer House stars Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke called off their engagement in August 2023, just three months before they were expected to tie the knot. Since their split, Lindsay, Carl, and friends close to the couple have spoken out about the breakup and what led to it.

Lindsay and Carl appear to have different ideas about what led to the split. Lindsay claimed she was blindsided by her former fiance’s decision to call it quits. Meanwhile, Carl said they were having problems for months before the breakup.

Season 8 of Summer House is currently airing and has provided some much-needed insight into the couple’s relationship. According to People, viewers will see the breakup at some point this season. While we wait, let’s take a look at everything Carl and Lindsay have said publicly about the split.

Lindsay said she was blindsided by the breakup

Lindsay called her split with Carl “the ultimate [blindside]” during a November 2023 appearance on Bachelor alum Nick Viall’s podcast The Viall Files.

“There was no indication that he was having second thoughts or unhappy,” she told Nick. “He said nothing that would’ve given me any clues.”

The Summer House star said her former beau was doting on her and calling her the love of his life just two weeks before the breakup.

Carl responded to Lindsay’s claim during a BravoCon panel in November 2023. He told moderator Andy Cohen that he and Lindsay had been in couple’s therapy since November 2022.

Carl said he did not call production before the breakup

In a November interview with Us Weekly, Lindsay revealed that Carl “called up producers” to film their breakup. However, Carl has come out and said that his ex’s claim is not true.

“I didn’t call production,” he said in an interview with the same outlet. “I didn’t call production to purposely set something up like that. It’s unfortunate that she feels that way.”

In her interview on The Viall Files, Lindsay claimed that Carl wanted her to change. She told Nick that Carl made comments about how she needed to be softer towards him.

“All of a sudden, I needed to change everything about me to be with him,” she said. “[He said], ‘You need to be softer Lindsay…You need to be softer, and nurturing, and caring, and loving.”

She went on to say that Carl outlined what kind of wife he wanted and she didn’t fit the bill.

“[Those conversations] turned into, ‘Oh, well, I don’t want the role of my wife to be someone who asks questions, and gives advice, and has opinions,” she said.

“I’m not a 1950s Stepford wife,” she said in response to Carl’s supposed remark. “I am a very independent girl, who [has] made my own money since I was 14 years old.”

Carl says he has ‘no regrets’ about his breakup with Lindsay

During a March appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Carl said he has ‘no regrets’ about ending the engagement.

“I don’t regret anything,” he told Andy. “I think it was the best decision for the both of us to not move forward with the wedding.”

“A wedding is to celebrate your relationship and there were foundational things that were not stable to move forward with a lifetime of marriage,” he added.

Lindsay said Carl ‘demanded’ she give the ring back

During another episode of Watch What Happens Live, Lindsay said her ex ‘demanded’ that she give back the 4.02-carat engagement ring.

“Legally the ring belongs to him,” she said. “There [is] law, New York law, and then there [is] etiquette.”

Carl said his split with Lindsay was harder than his brother’s death

At BravoCon, Carl commented on his split with Lindsay being harder than losing his brother. His brother, Curtis, passed away in 2020 from an accidental drug overdose. The Summer House star has been open about how his brother’s passing motivated him to get sober.

Carl later withdrew the comment, telling Us Weekly in February that he regrets the comparison.

“I made a comment at BravoCon about this breakup being harder than the passing of my brother, and that is not true,” he told the outlet. “What I wanted to say was just [that] the public nature of all this, and the confusion around what’s been said and all the different back and forth, it is really, really hard when you go through a breakup in such a public way.”

“The breakup has been really, really, really hard, but I would do anything in the world to take my brother back,” he added.

Summer House airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.
