Brittany Cartwright Calls Estranged Husband Jax Taylor Her Second ‘Toddler’

Like many women married to an immature man expecting to be waited on hand and foot, Brittany Cartwright often felt like she was caring for two toddlers.

Part of the reason The Valley star decided to finally leave Jax Taylor is that he wasn’t pulling his weight in their relationship. Raise your hand if you’re surprised at any of this. Nobody?

“I’m taking care of my toddler,” the Vanderpump Rules alum said. “[At the same time], I’m also taking care of another toddler named Jax Taylor … I basically do everything for the household. I just want to feel appreciated and … wanted by the person that I’m married to.”

Leaving a “toxic” situation

The couple, who married in June 2019, are still managing to co-parent, work together at Jax’s Studio City bar, and co-host their podcast When Reality Hits with Jax and Brittany. But it hasn’t been easy amid their separation.

“It definitely can be challenging,” Brittany told People. “I still love Jax very much, but he is a hard person to deal with, and I think everybody in the world knows that.”

Though The Valley was filmed during Summer 2023, Britt claimed cameras were turned back on when things started to fall apart in their marriage. “So you will see some of what’s going on,” she promised. “I think people will understand what I’m going through.”

The Kentucky native said that a couple of “really big” fights were the last straw and led to her leaving their home for an Airbnb.

“It was super important for me to get out of a toxic situation,” she admitted. “[Jax] just needs to calm down. He’s got a lot of different things that he always puts on me. I’m always feeling the pressure of having to deal with things that are going on with him, and that can be really hard.”

At this point, Brittany can’t say what the future looks like, but she confessed that the new living situation has been “better” for their son “because we aren’t fighting in front of him.”

“That’s what’s most important right now,” she added. “That’s why I had to get him out of that situation in the first place.” Jax and Brittany’s son Cruz turns three later this month.

Not a publicity stunt

“Marriages, in general, are very hard, and I’ve had a particularly rough year,” she said on their podcast. “Jax and I are taking time apart, and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health.”

Following the announcement of their separation just prior to The Valley’s premiere, speculation swirled that it was a publicity stunt. The couple’s rep, however, told Page Six that the breakup was “not PR related in any way.”

Despite their issues, Brittany seems open to reconciliation with her estranged husband. She’s attempting to amicably co-parent with Jax for the sake of their son.

“We’ve got to make money for our future, for our son, for his future,” she said. “We’re going to be in each other’s lives no matter what, whether we get back together or we don’t. So I’d rather us be able to be around each other than absolutely hate each other. Let’s just pray it doesn’t get that far.”

The Valley continues Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
