Ally Lewber and James Kennedy Perform for Kids at Festival of Books, Fans React

Well, this certainly isn’t Coachella, but perhaps it’s the next best thing. Vanderpump Rules stars James Kennedy and Ally Lewber just performed at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, and the results were … questionable. Let’s just say that this performance makes Ashley Darby’s Coffee & Love performance look like a Beyoncé concert.

The whole thing was a collaboration with a children’s music education company called Station Little. James and Ally recorded a song called with them called, “I Believe In You,” and they took to the stage at the book festival to perform the song for some lucky fans. Check out the video below.

Are Ally and James the new Sonny and Cher?

In the video, you can see James doing his usual little two-step while keeping one hand on the microphone. Meanwhile, Ally is parked at her microphone stand, awkwardly rocking back and forth while crooning the lyrics of their children’s song. The real star of this video might be the guest rapper, who appeared out of nowhere and dropped a few motivational bars while Ally continued trying to find notes to hit in the background.

On TikTok, VPR fans were brutal with their response to the little performance. One person said they looked like “camp counselors” while another criticized the awkward hand placement from pretty much everyone in the video. Honestly, we can’t give them an “A” for effort, but we can certainly give them an “A” for audacity.

A small minority of commenters praised the Pump Rules couple. James got positive feedback for being a supportive boyfriend. Someone else noted that they looked good considering that it was for a children’s event. Ultimately, some people were just shocked to see anyone associated with VPR doing something wholesome.

One person noted, “Comments don’t know a wholesome moment when they see it.”

That critical commenter might be right. But, at the same time, we don’t necessarily tune into VPR for the wholesome content. Thus, we’re a little confused as to why Station Little collaborated with James and Ally in the first place.

You can catch James and Ally in their normal environment on Vanderpump Rules. New episodes drop every Tuesday on Bravo at 8/7c.
