Why Stassi Schroeder Was Canceled on Pump Rules Before Vanderpump Villa

For many, Stassi Schroeder was the pinnacle of Vanderpump Rules. The reformed mean girl was all about getting exactly what she wanted. Even though she had questionable choices in men, she was the queen bee of SUR. She and Jax Taylor made for quite the early seasons thanks to their constant fights. But Stassi always kept her reign. That was until she was let go from the network after making a very stupid choice.

Why was Stassi Schroeder cancelled?

In June 2020, Stassi, along with Kristen Doute, were cancelled due to their racist actions. Bravo had no other choice but to fire two-thirds of the Witches of WeHo after the duo called the police on Faith Stowers for a crime she didn’t commit. At the same time, Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni were also axed after racist tweets resurfaced from their accounts. Faith spoke out on an Instagram Live, sharing that it was hard to do a reality TV show with an all white cast.

After reading a Daily Mail article in 2018, Stassi and Kristen chose to call the Los Angeles police to report her as the suspect. In the article, the suspect was described as a black woman who was allegedly drugging and robbing men in Hollywood. In the IG Live, Faith revealed, “There was this article where there was an African American lady. It was a weird photo, so she looked very light-skinned and had these different, weird tattoos. They showcased her, and I guess this woman was robbing people … And they called the cops and said it was me. This is like, a true story. I heard this from actually Stassi during an interview.”

After the 2020 firing, Stassi took time away from the spotlight. She married Beau Clark and had two children. But she also concentrated on her career outside of reality TV. Since she didn’t know if she’d ever go back, she wanted other avenues. She’s started two very successful podcasts. The first is called Stassi, where she shares candid stories about her life and personal reflections. The other is a family podcast entitled Stassi and The Good, The Bad, The Baby, which she co-hosts with Beau. She also penned three books: Next Level Basic, Off With My Head, and You Can’t Have It All.

But now Stassi is making moves to reintroduce herself to the reality TV world. She is co-starring on Vanderpump Villa and is launching her own series, Stassi Says. She told OK! Magazine “I love reality TV. Even through all of the sh*t, how it makes you a psychopath, [how] it’s not good for your mental health, I still enjoy doing it.” Stassi “never felt like I was completely done with reality TV. I knew it would have to be what feels authentic to who we are as a family, and Beau was super supportive of the idea.”

Did Stassi Schroeder deserve her second chance on Vanderpump Villa after being canceled?

Shortly after her firing, Stassi educated herself on race in America. Stassi told Tamron Hall in 2020, “I didn’t understand that just because something wasn’t about race for me, doesn’t mean it’s not about race for the other person. Because I’m bringing my experience as a white privileged woman to this situation, and she’s bringing her experience as a Black woman into this situation. And because it’s about race for her, it is about race. And that’s something that I’ve realized.” Stassi went as far as to say, “It is absolutely my fault that I didn’t know better, but the issue is I did not know better. I want to be a part of the solution, I’ve been a part of the problem for years now,” Stassi said.

“And I’ve recognized that. That’s why I say I don’t feel like I’m a victim of cancel culture. People want me to be mad at it and I’m not, I needed it.” After five years away from the small screen, I think Stassi has earned a second chance. Upon watching Vanderpump Villa, I could see a difference in her. When she was on VPR, I was never a fan, but I found myself wanting to see more Stassi on my screen as of late. Everyone deserves a second chance, and if she blows it this time, that’s on her.

Vanderpump Villa is available to stream on Hulu.
