Welcome to the recap for Next Gen NYC Season 1, Episode 1! This is Bravo’s latest foray into watching twenty-somethings make it in the big city, but with a twist. Several of the cast are already established Bravolebs because their parents are Bravo stars. So, will they be able to step out of their parents’ shadows? Put on your best Brooks Marks tracksuit, and let’s find out! Here’s exactly what went down in Next Gen NYC Season 1, Episode 1: “Welcome to New York.”
What happened in Next Gen NYC Season 1, Episode 1?

It was a jam-packed premiere with some familiar faces and new ones too. Surprisingly, it was Brooks, son of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Meredith Marks, who was the HBIC on the show. Although normally quiet, Brooks found his voice in order to defend his sister Chloe against Charlie, who texted an inappropriate joke about dating her. We also had drama between Georgia, Riley, and Gia when Georgia’s anti-handwashing stance grossed them all out. However, it was the cost of rent in NYC that grossed out Ariana. She couldn’t find a place bigger than a closet that was under $12,000 a month. And she did not have help from her parents to figure it all out.
Brooks was giving Blue Steel

We kicked off with Ariana, daughter of Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kim Zolciak. She was new to the Big Apple and needed a place to live. A random passerby named Marlene gave her some advice. She warned, “New Yorkers are very friendly … sometimes.” Then she gave the sign of the cross. Welcome to New York!
Ariana texted her Real Housewives buddies Brooks and Gia an option for an apartment. Gia, daughter of Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice, offered up Jersey instead. Brooks told Ariana Little Italy was a big fat no. The search continued.
Brooks hopped off his phone to get back to his photo shoot with his mom, Meredith. The model and clothing designer dished, “I love my mom; she’s amazing. But it definitely does feel like you’re living in someone’s shadow.”
His sister Chloe snapped pics as Brooks gave his best Blue Steel. Meredith showed a different side as she joked around as “Marla” Brooks’ assistant while wearing an atrocious blonde wig. We need that playful energy on RHOSLC too!
Soon after, Ava and Charlie joined the shoot. Ava’s a model and daughter of music mogul Damon Dash and fashion designer Rachel Roy. Charlie is a crypto bro whose retired investment banker father funds his investing. And pays for his haircuts too.
Charlie immediately gave bad friend vibes when he bragged he took screenshots of Brooks on TV and texted them to him along with “LOL.” He added, “I get in infinite trouble with my mouth.” What a gem.
Brooks explained that Charlie was the resident Peter Pan of the group who had yet to grow up. He added that “relationship Charlie” was different than “single Charlie.” And unfortunately for Brooks, single Charlie had his sights set on Chloe.
Ariana’s troubles from home followed her to NYC

Ariana took a break from apartment hunting to grab dinner with her boyfriend, Hudson. He’s the son of the founder of Zaxby’s chicken. Still, Ariana made her own money. She explained she had booked major brand deals since 14.
Then she dropped a bomb. She stated, “Unfortunately, my parents took my money.” Ariana added her mom continued to ask for money. This caused tension with Hudson, who didn’t want her taken advantage of. But she had no plans of cutting her mom off anytime soon.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group met Georgia at the club. Georgia is a brand and events creative strategist who loves When Harry Met Sally and … germs? Brooks said, “When you think of New York, I feel like everyone thinks of Georgia. Or probably, most people think of Gossip Girl, but then you think of Georgia.”
After having to wait briefly in line with the commoners, Brooks and Chloe went inside. Charlie then decided to shoot his shot with Chloe. He said, “Going on a date with my friend’s little sister is a great idea. What could possibly go wrong?”
The next day, Ava and Charlie met up with Georgia for lunch. In Georgia and Charlie’s confessional, she likened them to the couples confessional in When Harry Met Sally. He, like everyone else, had no clue what she meant. Then the topic of who Charlie was dating came up. He blurted, “Chloe’s cute.”
Georgia dished that Charlie had quite the repertoire of women, such as Lindsay Lohan. I have a feeling Charlie tells that story to anyone who will listen. She then claimed he treated women really well, to which Ava scoffed, “Really?” He never opened any doors for her. Were Ava and Charlie an item at one point too?
Charlie charms Chloe with tales from Shark Week

Next we meet Emira, a content creator and model, who was channeling her inner Carrie Bradshaw in a cotton candy pink number. Emira explained she was “busted, crusted, dusted, but I still acted like I was that b*tch.” And now she was that b*tch.
Brooks said, “If you go after Emira’s friends, you’re not gonna see the light of day.” Oop. He then told Emira that Charlie made inappropriate jokes about taking his sister out on a date. Emira advised this wasn’t going to end well.
However, the date was pretty tame. Charlie courted Chloe with a gruesome tale of his skateboarding accident, which was confused as a shark bite. He noted a girl told him if a guy got bit by a shark, it would give her the ick because he should fend them off. Chloe was perplexed.
Her icks were less dramatic; she just wanted someone who knew how to open an umbrella. The bar was low, and Charlie passed her ick test … until she heard from Brooks. He told her Charlie texted him they should meet up as long as Chloe wasn’t at his place. Chloe frowned, “I’m going to vomit.” Time to add inappropriate texts to her ick list.
Brooks also lamented to Riley, daughter of RHOA star Kandi Burress. Riley just graduated from NYU and was figuring out what to do next. But right now her focus was to give Brooks advice, and that was to chat with Charlie.
Charlie had met up with his friends Dylan and Shai and said the date with Chloe went well. He didn’t think Brooks had any issues either. Dylan quipped, “I wouldn’t let you date my little sister; I’ll tell you that, boss.”
Georgia felt isolated from the group

Meanwhile on House Hunters, Ariana and Hudson continued their search for a two-bedroom big enough where they didn’t have to use the oven for storage. Their broker informed them that would cost at least $12,000 per month. Marlene popped by and did the sign of the cross again.
Emira killed it at the fashion show as she strutted dressed like a Knott’s Scary Farm character. Afterwards, Brooks was dreading his talk with Charlie. He sighed, “I feel like I’m going to faint. And die. And cry all at the same time.”
Georgia continued to judge everyone on their lack of When Harry Met Sally knowledge. She called her friend “useless” and was flustered Riley hadn’t heard of the movie. Georgia complained, “I feel like I’m an alien or something, which I have never felt that in New York.”
She further distanced herself from the group when she touched the bottom of Ava’s shoe and then touched her own face. Gia and Riley were horrified. People pee on the streets!
Brooks could no longer disengage and confronted Charlie. He said, “I said don’t be disrespectful to my sister. You said meet us out tonight unless she’s home with me. That is f*cking crazy.” Charlie tried to deny it but was busted by his own receipts. He gave a half-hearted apology, but it was something.
#Germgate continued when Georgia refused to wash her hands in the bathroom. Riley was shook and wouldn’t let Georgia hug her goodbye. I bet Harry and Sally washed their hands…
Next Gen NYC continues Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo and streams on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
