RHOA Star Monyetta Shaw-Carter Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Another Bravolebrity has come forward to share their cancer battle. This time, it’s Real Housewives of Atlanta star Monyetta Shaw-Carter. You remember her as a part-time cast member in Seasons 14 and 15. Now, she’s opening up about her recent breast cancer diagnosis.

In an eye-opening interview, Monyetta opened up about the breast cancer diagnosis she received in November 2024. Prior to that, she said she felt a “random sensation” in one of her breasts that felt like a warning sign.

“I had a biopsy about 10 years ago and it came back benign,” explained to People in a recent interview.

“Then last year in September I was doing a self-check because I felt this random sensation that I can’t really describe in my left boob. It was like nothing I’ve ever felt before. It was literally like my body was alerting me that something was wrong,” Monyetta recalled.

The next month, she had a routine mammogram, where her doctors discovered a lump. It turned out to be stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma. Monyetta said receiving that phone call from her doctor was one of the “hardest and scariest” moments of her life.

“Everything around me stopped. My heart dropped. I was afraid,” Monyetta recalled, adding that she felt “angry” and “numb.”

However, she couldn’t stay in that state of shock. Monyetta had to work with her doctors to devise a plan of attack. She recalled how she considered undergoing a double mastectomy, but after genetic testing came back “favorable,” she opted to proceed with a lumpectomy.

In January 2025, she underwent the procedure followed by 16 rounds of radiation. On May 2, she concluded her radiation treatment and is now cancer-free. Hallelujah!

“Because I caught the cancer early, I will be here for my kids,” Monyetta noted. “There’s nothing more important than getting checked often and early to protect your future. Our health is irreplaceable. I can’t thank my exceptional doctors and nurses enough. They are our heroes!”

Monyetta isn’t the only RHOA opening up about their cancer diagnosis. Dwight Eubanks, party planner and hair stylist, shared this week that he received a prostate cancer diagnosis. He’s still in the process of determining a treatment plan. But, just like Monyetta, he’s focused on using his diagnosis to educate people and remind them of the importance of regular screenings.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs on Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo and on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
