Welcome to the recap for Next Gen NYC Episode 3. Last week, Riley and Ariana met up after a decade and decided that their parents’ beef was not their own. Beef was also momentarily squashed between Georgia and Riley when Georgia announced her hands were literally clean. However, it was Charlie who got his hands dirty with Brooks. After apologizing for his text about Chloe, Charlie went right back to talking smack. And Brooks still struggled to call him out on it. Would he be able to clean up this mess once and for all? Here’s exactly what went down in Next Gen NYC Episode 3: “Daddy Issues and Poolside Tissues.”

This week we delved into the psyche that is Charlie. Not only does he have issues with his dad, but his mom as well. In a hilarious and awkward one-on-one, Brooks’ dad, Seth Marks, wanted to jump in and be Charlie’s life coach. Needless to say, Charlie did not receive it. Instead, he continued down his destructive path within the friend group. And this time he fought with his biggest supporters, Georgia, Riley, and Ava. It all came to ahead at Gia’s pool party, where everyone learned that Charlie’s apologies had no meaning. Charlie was going to have a lot of work to do if he wanted to fix things with the group.

Ava went into damage control mode

And now for our weekly montage of Ariana in awe of living in the Big Apple, all while The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song plays in the background … you’re gonna make it after all! And nothing was going to get Ariana down. Not the smell of urine, the bird poop that just splattered on her head, or having to see the elder of the group, Charlie, yet again.

Charlie was also top of mind for Brooks, who called Ava to spill the tea about Riley’s get-together. Brooks told her Charlie asked, “So you won’t be mad if I f*ck your sister?” Ava was shook. So, she decided to do some pro bono PR services for him. A fruitless task to be sure.

Unsurprisingly, Charlie claimed to be joking. He didn’t think Brooks cared. Ava told him it was the exact opposite, that Brooks laughed because he couldn’t handle confrontation. Then Charlie dished on wanting to fight with Hudson, conveniently leaving out this all started because Hudson stood up against him for Brooks. Dylan observed, “Guys usually become way better friends after they hit each other in the face a couple times.” We shall see.

Later on, Brooks met up with his dad, Seth, at the driving range. And it was super awkward. When Brooks opened up that he had a boyfriend named Kade, Seth asked him what his body count was. Brooks responded with RBF.

However, he did talk about the texting drama with Charlie. Seth psychoanalyzed that Charlie was immature because he didn’t have a good role model to learn from. Then he offered to talk to Charlie for him. This was going to go well.

Charlie’s life was the show Succession

We continued to learn more about Charlie’s villain origin story when he met up with his mom, Liz, and her boyfriend, Ivor. Charlie said his mom raised him until he was ten but didn’t provide “stable home-cooked meal environment vibes.” She was too busy dating Jean-Michel Basquiat, so Charlie’s father got custody.

However, this wasn’t what upset him about his mom. It was the fact she wouldn’t back him up against his dad. Charlie said, “In fear of her receiving repercussions from being against him, she would sort of leave me to fend for myself.”

After Liz noted how sweet Charlie was, she randomly brought up a drawing he did when he was little. It showed the various ways he wanted to off his dad. They laughed, but Ivor looked horrified.

Charlie then ranted he was living out the show, Succession. He said, “My dad is the dad from that show. Just how badly one of the sons wants his approval and how little he gives a f*ck.” There’s a whole lot to unpack here.

Meanwhile, Brooks wanted to be more than just “a one-tracksuit wonder,” so he invited Shai over to teach him how to use a sewing machine. And Shai just happens to be an expert. Soon after, Riley joined them, and they caught up on Georgia’s art event from the previous night.

Besides Georgia losing her phone, the big reveal was that Ariana and Hudson made up with Charlie. Ariana had said, “I want to squash this beef with Charlie. I hope this guy can keep his small d*ck energy in his pants and calm down so we can all just be friends.” The three made up, but then Georgia was pissed at Charlie for ditching her. The dude can’t win.

Brooks’ dad, Seth, was ready to get his life coach skills on with his very first client, Charlie. The problem was Charlie did not sign up for his services. Charlie said, “What would I rather be doing than having this meeting with Seth? Cutting my own d*ck off, sleeping, vomiting at my house, f*cking Chloe. Like, literally anything.”

Seth did his best Steve Buscemi “How do you do, fellow kids?” but it wasn’t working. Charlie said, “The level of familial involvement is a little bit more intense than I’m used to after a first date with a girl.”

The infamous text got brought up, and Charlie tried to downplay the situation. Surprisingly, Seth believed Charlie was remorseful and promised to tell Brooks to “move the frick on.” He then told Charlie he was proud of him and asked if his dad ever told him that. We all know the answer.

Seth advised him that we can’t pick our parents. He said, “Now it’s time to go rip! And become Charlie f*cking … insert last name here.”

With the therapy session over, it was time to party. The group took the arduous journey up to New Jersey for Gia’s pool party. It was all fun and games until Charlie got called out for ditching Riley and Georgia. They thought the girls Charlie was with were rude, as they didn’t introduce themselves.

Charlie countered Riley was rude for not introducing herself and waved his finger around imitating her. This brought Riley to tears as she explained how she does not act like that and does not appreciate the narrative that she’s scary. Ava went into PR mode and told Charlie to apologize. He did, but did he actually mean it?

Once they arrived at Gia’s, Riley called her mom, Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kandi Burruss. Kandi advised about Charlie, “He’s going to have to learn to deal with Black women. And if this is his first lesson, then let that be it.”

Meanwhile, everyone jumped in the pool as fresh mozzarella was being made for their pizzas. And no Real Housewives kid’s party was complete without a psychic on standby.

Then Charlie pulled Riley aside to apologize again. Adriana’s dog sensed Riley’s distress and came up to give her cuddles. Riley told Charlie, “When I say that something has racial backgrounds to me, just like, understand that. And if I’m your friend, just listen to what I’m saying and actually care.” Charlie said he was genuinely sorry, but as we’ve learned, his “genuine” apologies are anything but.

Charlie then admitted to Georgia he only apologized to squash their beef, but he didn’t actually mean it. News spread to Ava, and she was pissed. So, she told Riley. Riley wanted Ava to let Charlie know his actions are not ok. When Charlie sat with them, Riley said, “We’re good.” She knew this guy wasn’t going to change.

However, Charlie was shocked to learn that Ava was now upset with him too. He went over to Riley, wondering why Ava was mad. As usual, he couldn’t take the heat, so he ran off. Unfortunately for him, doggie gates and a psychic blocked his escape. Would he stay and make amends?

Next Gen NYC continues Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo. It streams on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
