The rumors were true. NeNe Leakes was indeed in talks to compete in Season 4 of The Traitors. She spilled the tea all about it during her appearance on Humble Brag, the podcast hosted by Cynthia Bailey and Crystal Kung Minkoff.
According to NeNe, the casting team for The Traitors approached her about joining the game, but she ultimately decided to decline. It turns out her reasoning was deeply personal, and had nothing to do with money, ego, or the Andy Cohen of it all.
NeNe Leakes was “excited” to do The Traitors US
NeNe appeared on the July 7 episode of Humble Brag, and Cynthia wasted no time jumping into the question we all wanted to know. Was NeNe approached for The Traitors Season 4?
“Yes, I was asked to do Traitors,” NeNe confirmed, while also revealing that Tamar Braxton was in talks for the upcoming season.
Although some reports were floating around that NeNe turned down the show due to money, NeNe refuted that. Money wasn’t the issue. She was unable to do the show because of her son’s health.
“I couldn’t do Traitors because my son’s in the hospital, and he’s still in the hospital,” NeNe revealed. “My son has been in the hospital since May.”
NeNe’s son, Brentt Leakes, has been facing ongoing health complications. In 2022, he suffered congestive heart failure and a stroke. In 2024, he underwent a heart transplant. Sadly, NeNe shared that his body began rejecting the new heart. His medical team is working to ensure that the new heart works for his body.
With that in mind, it would have been impossible for NeNe to travel to Scotland, hand over her phone, and start trying to hunt down Faithfuls. She needed to be by her son’s side, and fortunately, NeNe shared that he’s turned a corner in his recovery. Perhaps there will be room in the castle for NeNe next year?
